The Alpha Night Fury

Dragon Island

I flew behind mamma who was carrying SmokeCloud and NightSong flew beside me. We flew over the sea towards Dragon Island. We stopped on a small island of rock and mamma showed us how to catch fish. I lay by the waters edge and watched the fish swim by, then I pounced and grabbed the fish in my mouth. We all ate and caught a fish to take to the queen. "Hey mamma?" I asked. "Yes little one?" Mamma replied. "Do we have a dada?" I asked. Mamma smiled a little and replied "you did. My soulmate gave up his life for us. He was a good dragon." "Will I ever find my soulmate?" I asked with a tilt of my head. "Every dragon has a soulmate. It's a bond you share that can never be broken. You will find your soulmate one day little one" mamma told me. I smiled at the idea of it. "Hey mamma I have a question too" SmokeCloud said. "Oh dear, go on then." "Now that we are bigger can we start to refer to you as mum?" "Yes, of course" mamma said laughing

I flew through the fog with a huge fish in my mouth until we finally reached the island and flew into the tunnel of a giant volcano. We entered a huge cave with a big hole in the middle, the hole was covered in mist and I couldn't see into it. We flew and landed on the Night Fury platform with two other Night Furies. It was large platform of black, dusty rock. "I'm ready" came a growl from deep within the hole. I watched as different dragons flew over the hole and dropped some food inside, they went in order of species. Some dragons she considered too weak or they couldn't fly or didn't bring enough food, all those dragons were eaten alive. The queen would leap up from the mist revealing her large head and snatch up the dragons before they even had a chance to blink.

Finally it was the Night Furies turn. The two others went first then Mum flew and dropped the fish in the hole. "Welcome back NightCloud" the Red Death growled. Then it was NightSong's turn. "Drop the fish in the hole up ahead" mamma told us. NightSong flew and dropped the fish. "What's you name?" The queen asked. "NightSong" my brother replied. "Welcome NightSong" the queen told him. NightSong flew back and landed next to me. Now it was SmokeCloud's turn. SmokeCloud leapt from rock to rock until he was above the hole. He dropped the fish into the hole. "Fly" the queen commanded. SmokeCloud opened his ripped wings and leapt into the air, he glided for a few seconds then landed again. The Red Death leapt up and grabbed his wing then swallowed him whole. "What are you doing?!" Mum shouted. "He wasn't even a dragon, he couldn't fly!" The Red Death screamed back. Mum lowered her head in apology and submission. The Red Death nodded, letting her off this one time.

Now it was my turn. I picked up the huge fish in front of me and spread my blue glowing wings. I flew swiftly to the hole and looked down at the eyes of the queen glaring at me through the mist. She was blue with red spikes all along her back. She had a heavily armoured skull and tail, small eyes and large nostrils. I could tell she relied on hearing and smell. I dropped the fish. I saw her catch it in her mouth and swallow it. "Nice large fish" the queen said pleased. I nodded and lowered my head in respect. "What's your name?" the queen asked. "I'm IceGlow" I told her. "IceGlow, nice name for a special glowing Night Fury" she said and I could see a sparkle in her eye. I did a flip and hovered above her. She looked me up and down. "You will be the lead dragon of all these dragons and they must do whatever you ask. You work for me and are my second in command" the queen told me. I nodded and thanked her. "Welcome IceGlow!" the queen said. I flew up to the leader platform and all the dragons lowered their heads and welcomed me as their lead dragon.

I led the dragons out of the cave and into a closed tunnel in the volcano where we all live. I flew into a hole in the tunnel which is known as the Night Fury hole. Each dragon has its own species hole to live in or it can sleep anywhere in the dragon tunnel. The Night Fury hole was very big since we didn't have nearly enough Night Furies to fill it. There were a few rocks inside the Night Fury hole where we could sleep. I chose the highest rock as mine. NightSong had the rock nearest me and mom had the rock beside him. A little further away were the two other Night Furies. StarGaze was a female who's mother had apparently been caught by dragon hunters while they were flying here. NightShade was male who had never meet his parents, had no memory of what happened before he came here and had come here on pure instinct. I used my fire to heat the ground around me then I curled up and went to sleep. Later Mum woke me up and told me the queen had requested to see me. I flew out of the tunnel and entered the volcano.

"Hello IceGlow" the queen said. I landed on the leader platform and lowered my head. "I have bought you here to explain your job" the queen began. I sat down and listened. "I choose a lead dragon very year and I do it on instinct, I see a dragon and just know that they will be a good leader. My instinct is always correct. This time I chose you." "I will make you proud" I told her. "I demand lots of food so your job is to lead the raids. There are many villages not too far from here such as Berk, White Willow, Fire Heart, Berserker Island, Outcast Island and so on. Your job is to lead the raids, make sure you get enough food for me and get the majority of dragons out alive" the queen told me. "And one last thing. You may be lead dragon, but you work for me. Never forgot that" she told me a stone cold glare. I nodded. She let me go and I flew back to the Night Fury den. I practiced controlling my glowing scales until I finally got the hang of it. I lay down and started planning the first raid I had to lead tomorrow.
