NightShade turned around and looked at me. "What are you doing here? You need to rest!" He almost snapped at me. I flattened my ears and took a step backwards. He lowered his head and sighed. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to snap at you." "It's alright. How are your wings?" I asked as I said down next to him. "The front ones are good now, it's the left tail flap that's the problem. It hurts. I can still fly, but it slows me down and puts off my steering slightly." He said as he lifted it up. He looked up at me and saw blood glistening on my wing. "Oh no, your wing!" He said as he got up and took a closer look at it. "Yeah, it really hurts. I most have reopened the wound by coming here. It's not broken though and it will heal, but I can't fly, I can only glide." I told him. "Why did you come over here then? You should have stayed in the tunnel" he said in a worried voice. "I wanted to see if you were okay" I told him. He smiled a little. "Thank you" I said after a minute, breaking the short silence. "For what?" He asked tilting his head. "For saving me" I told him. "Oh right that. Of course, it was nothing" he said quietly. "It's my fault. If I hadn't shot that tower none of this would have happened" I said as I lowered my head. He turned and put his wing under my head, lifting it up so he was looking into my green eyes. "This is not your fault. You're amazing and none of this is your fault!" He told me. I smiled softly and closed my eyes.

We stayed by the river until it was sunset. We sat next to each other and watched the water fall over the side of the cliff. I looked over at NightShade who was looking at me with that look; the same look he gave me the day I taught him how to hunt fish. I stretched out my wing a little, brushing it over his. I was immediately filled with tingles and I felt a spark stronger than fire between us. I looked over at him and I realised how much he meant to me. Was he my soulmate? Was this feeling the bond mum had told me about? Could I possibly be that lucky? There was only one way to find out. I took a long, deep breath. "NightShade I..." before I could say anything else he stepped forwards and rubbed his head against mine. This was a sign that he loved me. I closed my eyes and rubbed my head back against his. We pulled apart a little so our noses were touching and gazed into each other's eyes, purring softly. I couldn't believe it, I had found my soulmate!

NightSong and StarGaze landed behind us. We both jumped back as we saw the two other Night Furies. "Sorry to, er... disturb you..." NightSong said awkwardly. "Why did you come here?" I asked trying to change the subject. "Firstly to check you're both alive. Secondly the Queen is demanding to see you both" NightSong said. No one had told the Red Death what happened, they had simply said that me and NightShade would explain and I guess the queen had gotten fed up with waiting. "Can you take us there?" I asked. "Of course, I'll take Ice" StarGaze said. "I can fly fine" NightShade protested. "No you can't! And you will let NightSong take you" I told him. NightShade sighed. My brother picked up NightShade and StarGaze picked me up then we headed for the volcano. "So you and my sister..." I heard NightSong say. I rolled my eyes, but I let him since I knew he was just being my protective brother. "Yep..." NightShade said awkwardly and slightly intimidated. "Well you better take good care of her. And if you hurt her in any way I promise you I will find you and make you pay!" NightSong said sternly. "Yes,  that's very extremely clear" NightShade said with a gulp. "And yes I will take good care of her" NightShade reassured my brother. I chuckled softly. I looked up and saw StarGaze was impressed with how protective my brother was. I grinned and looked ahead as we entered the volcano.

We landed on the Night Fury platform and looked at the Red Death who was glaring at us all. I looked around and saw all the other dragons watching us from their platforms. "What is going on?!" The queen yelled. I walked to the edge of the platform so she could see me clearly. "During the second raid last night I was shot with a net. NightShade caught me just before I fell into the lava, but he burnt his wings. My left wing is hurt, but I will still be able to fly. I just need a few days to let it heal. NightShade's front wings are okay, but his left tail flap is partly burnt. He will still be able to fly, but he also needs a few days rest" I told the queen. She glared at me. "Prove you can fly, both of you!" She demanded. I leapt into the air and spread my wings. After gliding I flew higher then dived down and opened my wings again, ignoring the pain. NightShade followed my lead and did the same. We both landed back on our platforms. The queen climbed up until her eyes were right in front of me. "Show me your hurt wings" she ordered. I showed my wing and NightShade showed his tail flap. The queen growled softly then pulled away and retreated back into her hole at the bottom of the volcano. "You both have three days to heal your wings. After that, no matter what, you're both working again!" She said. I lowered my head and thanked her greatly.

We were carried back to the Night Fury hole were we both lay down by the entrance. NightShade put his paw on mine and purred softly. Mum came running over to me. "Are you okay?!" She asked in a very worried voice. "Yes, I'll be fine" I told her. Mum looked over at NightShade who still had his paw on mine then she looked back up at me. I nodded and smiled. Mum grinned. "NightShade is my soulmate" I told her then rubbed my head against his.
