Roc along with Ray had just landed in New Jersey, safely to Ray’s surprise. They both had tried to reach Prince and Prod before they took off and after they landed, but both boys didn’t pick up their phones. Prod’s been MIA for a few days, but Princeton always picks up his phone. What’s going on?
“Something’s seriously wrong with the gang,” Roc began, “Try calling Nia and Chyna.”
“You call Chyna and I’ll call Nia.” Ray said, taking out his phone.
Chyna picked up first, “Hello?”
“Chyna. Ray and I are in New Jersey.” He went on to explain the situation as quickly as he could. “Can you girls come?”
Chy was silent for a moment, and then she spoke in shock, “Yeah…. Yeah… We can come. We’ll meet up in two hours max!”
“Have you talked to Prince? We’ve been trying to reach him.”
“Oh, you won’t reach him,” she said, disgust in her voice and then hung up before either of the boys could make sense of what just happened.
“Uhm okay…”
Something was seriously wrong, but this wasn’t the time to deal with it. Roc and Ray caught a taxi and began their journey to Ariel’s house.
=================
What Roc and Ray didn’t know was Prodigy had just arrived in New Jersey as well, but with Ama. He had received one of their texts in midair, but couldn’t reply; both Ama and his phone had died. He caught a glimpse of Ray getting in the taxi after Roc and pointed. “Ama, look!”
“Where do you think they’re going first?”
“Probably Ariel’s house; I hope she’s okay,” He shook his head, obviously still slightly in denial about it all.
“Me too... Let’s go.” She called for a taxi and they both hopped in.
******************
As soon as the taxi pulled up to the curb of Ariel’s house, Ray noticed the door wide open. “You don’t think they could be…”
Roc hopped out, silently praying Ariel was still there. “I hope not.”
Both of the boys entered the house, and took a look around. There were signs of struggle so Deandré must have taken her out the house.
“Where could they have gone?” Ray asked.
Roc shook his head, trying to shake off the disbelief. “That’s what I’m trying to figure out.” Then his eyes landed on a folded piece of paper on the mantel with something written on the front.
Both boys walked over, Roc picked it up.
It said ‘Open me!’ and so Roc did.
Reading aloud, Roc said, “Dear Roc Royal, I knew you’d be the one to pick this up.
That’s how well I can predict you.
Hmm... Well anyway, this letter isn’t to offer you a possibility of saving her and getting away. But this is for you to come and watch her die.
That wasn’t my original plan, but Ariel has made me change my mind (stubborn, isn’t she?).
You can find us where Ariel’s ineptness stood out. Hurry up or you’ll miss the show.” Roc got angrier and angrier as he read; he knew the whole time Deandré couldn’t be trusted and look where they are now. Why wouldn’t anyone listen in the first place?!--He thought.
Ray furrowed his brows, “What’s he mean ‘where Ariel’s ineptness stood out?’”
“That’s the part I’m trying to figure out… I never took Deandré for a riddle type of guy.”
Both boys thought and thought but it didn’t make sense! Ariel had been clumsy wherever she was or whatever the circumstance. Which one was special? Not like the others?
By some magical way, a frame crashed to the floor off the mantle, the glass shattering. Roc picked it up to see a picture of a youthful Ariel in a pink tutu, dancing with some fellow ballerinas. “That’s it! That’s it! But where is it?”
Ray snapped his fingers together, thinking, “This is a small town… It can’t be far!”
They exited the house, and to their surprise saw Ama and Prodigy exiting a taxi cab. Roc caught them up on what they missed and they set forth to find this ballet studio. Nia and Chyna soon arrived as well.
