Rose Petal and Smiles -- Short Story 24

••••••••••••••••

"Are you sure you want to do this?" My good friend Leah asked me, holding me by the shoulders.

"I swear I want this." I laughed, shaking her hands off of me.

"Okie dokie." She flipped her bleached blonde hair over her shoulder.

Grinning from ear to ear, I pushed open the doors to the hair salon; my appointment set for five minutes from now.

Taking a seat to wait after checking in, I took out my phone to play games. Multiple messages from Leah already flooded my inbox.

You're gonna look so good!!

I wish I could dye my hair a different colour....

My mom said when I move out. :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :(

IT'S GONNA BE AWESOME!!!

But I swear I won't copy you.

I think I want blue streaks... or pink...

OR BOTH!

Kay, have fun girl! ;)

"Rose?" The woman at the counter called.

"Right here." I stood up, flashing her a smile.

"This way." She lead me to a chair in the back.

Sitting down in the chair, I set my purse on the counter and stared at myself in the mirror.

"So what did you want done today?" The lady played around with my hair while putting the cape on me.

"I want a wash, colour, and maybe a trim?"

"For sure, sounds good." She smiled, "You can call me Taylor by the way."

Jumping up, I followed her to the sinks and took another seat.

While she washed my mid-back length, naturally blonde, wavy hair, we talked about what colour I wanted done.

"I was thinking purple."

"All purple? Not streaks?" Taylor wrapped my hair in a towel.

"Well..uh.." I froze up. I've been mentally debating this for over a week.

"Because I think you'd look really awesome with it all purple." She reassured.

"My friend said the same."

Taylor dried my hair and prepared the colouring.

Letting the colour sit, she let me play around on my phone while I waited.

After washing my hair again, Taylor trimmed it.

"Come back anytime!" She called as I walked out.

I felt like the whole world was staring at me as I left the salon.

Flipping back and forth between the pages in my science textbook, I tried focusing on studying as I sat in the school's library.

But since I dyed my hair over the weekend, people at school have been looking at me more and it's distracting.

I guess dark purple hair is a big change over blonde.

I love it.

Smiling to myself, I focused back on my textbook.

Tuning out the students walking in and out of the library, I read pages and pages of text.
