Prom Night Friends -- Short Story 7

••••••••••••••••

Most stories have such a predictable ending. Whether it's:

The best guy friend and the girl.

The bad boy and the nerdy girl.

The flirt and the good girl.

The boy and girl who don't get along.

The boy and girl who secretly like each other.

They all just about always end the same.

They fall for each other.

Whose life is like that anyways? Does that actually happen in the real world?

I doubt it.

It was finally prom night. I no longer would be found stuck in a crowded high-school classroom.

You won't even find me in a university right away. A year long break from any kind of school was much needed.

Graduation also meant bye-bye to my bus buddy of 4 years Nicholas Camp.

Nick and I have been getting along better since our last field trip, but the guy seriously gets on my nerves.

Even with that said, I still agreed to be his date to prom because, well, no one else was going to ask me.

Agreeing was probably the worst mistake I have ever made.

Ever.

I thought sitting on the bus with him was bad. No way. That was easy compared to the stress he put me through before prom night.

He dragged me to so many tuxedo shops I lost count and tried on more than enough ties to give one to every guy going tonight.

And being Nick, he could not sit still if anything was turned to my attention.

I got over all of that until he text me an hour before the dance started saying;

Kelly, hey. I.. uh... I kinda sorta really need to meet you at the school. Do you still need a ride? Because I can find you one.

The idiot was suppose to pick me up in a limo. It's prom for crying out loud.

His reason for ditching me better be good.

I stepped out of the large, crowded SUV my friend rented for the night.

Thank god Ashley had an extra seat.

Ashley and my other friend Carrie were helped out of the SUV by their dates.

I, on the other hand, half stumbled, half tripped my way out.

"Kelly, you okay?" Carrie frowned as I straightened my big, puffy blue dress.

"Fine, just fine." I forced a grin, "Just fell out of the car." I mumbled under my breath.

I let the two couples walk ahead of me as I dug my phone out of my small hand bag.

Where is Nick?

He told me he would meet me by the front steps at 7.

My phone read 7:03p.m.

Screw Nicholas, I thought after waiting a few minutes, I'll go in without him.
