Once a Cutie, Always a Cutie -- Short Story 13

"Are you sure you don't want my hoodie?" Cale asked, wrapping his arm around me.
"I'll be fine." I rest my head on his side as we walked, "It's not even that cold."
"You say that now." He stared down at me, his amusement clearly shown on his face.
"Yeah, yeah. I don't need your hoodie." I laughed, pushing my bangs out of my face.
Cale and I continued walking through the park we've been to countless of times.
"Stupid things." I muttered. My bangs kept falling back down into my face. "I'm never having bangs again."
"I think they make you look cute." Cale teased, ruffling the top of my hair.
"You don't have to deal with them." I straightened it back out. "Besides, maybe I don't want to look cute."
Cale gave me his best serious face before screwing it up with laughter.
"Right, Maddy. You're definitely not cute."
"I didn't say I wasn't cute. Maybe I just don't want to be." I stopped walking to show my frustration. "It's not that funny."
Cale's laughing didn't seize. It kept on.
"Why is it so funny that I might not want to be seen as cute?" I crossed my arms, leaving the warmth of Cale's.
"You're seen as cute by everyone."
"So?"
"So you are cute."
"That's that then?" I raised my eyebrows.
"Let me explain it this way," Cale looked down at me, "When people look at me, what do you think they say?"
"He looks tough." I grumbled.
"And why is that?"
"Because they don't know you." I laughed.
"Ouch." He winced, laughing with me.
"You just look tough." I shrugged.
"Exactly. I just come off as tough." Cale wrapped his arms around me for a hug, "and you just come off as cute to people."
"I could change though." I found myself trying to stand my ground.
"How?" Cale grabbed onto my hand to keep us moving through the park.
"I don't know. Change my hair and clothes?"
"But then you're not you." He gave me a questioning look.
Finding a place to sit on a hill, I took a seat beside Cale on the ground.
"I don't want to be seen as cute."
"But you are, Maddy. Once you're a cutie, you always will be." He teased, winking just to bug me all the more.
"I'll just have to get tough." I flexed, showing what little muscles I have.
Cale laughed so hard he fell over.
"Or maybe I won't." I frowned, staring at my laughing-crazed boyfriend.
"Come on, Mads. You saying that makes you cute." Cale sat up. "You're stuck being seen as cute."
"But cute doesn't get me anywhere. At least as being tough, you can scare people off that bother you. Cute? What can cute do?" I flung my arms up in frustration and laid on my back.
"Cute can.." Cale lay beside me, "Cute can make people jealous or help people forgive you. Have a fight with your boyfriend? No problem, cute can save you." He grabbed my hand to play with, "You could be underestimated and then bam! The cute girl did something tough."
"Cute does not make people jealous." I turned my head to look at him.
"Sure it does. Ever seen an angry person get anything free? No. It's all of the cute people in the world getting discounts. That makes me jealous."
"It's happened once to me." I looked back up at the sky, "Okay, explain how cute helps after having a fight?"
Catching a smile on Cale's face, I squeezed his hand.
"How can you stay mad at a cutie? That's right, you can't." He grinned at me, obviously pleased with his ideas.
"This is the most ridiculous argument I have ever had." I whispered under my breath.
"You can't say you're not cute, Maddy."
"Denying is easy." I sat up, smirking down at Cale, "I'm not cute. See? Easy."
"Mads," Cale sat up too, "you are the cutest girl I know."
"I can't hear you," I covered my ears, "La la la la la."
In a flash, Cale had me under him and he was tickling my sides.
Between fits of giggles and full out laughter, I managed to get Cale to stop.
"You are cute." Cale wrapped his arm around my shoulders after letting me catch my breath.
"You've said that already." I laughed, shaking my head.
"And I'll keep saying it until you believe me. Cute is a good thing to be."
"I'm not so sure.."
"Maddy, I swear to-"
Laughing I leaned up to give him a kiss on the cheek. Sitting in silence for a few minutes, I realized I needed something.
"Uh.. hey, Cale.." I smiled up at him. "Could I have your hoodie now? Please?"
This sent Cale into his third fit of laughter tonight.
"Maddy, you are the very definition of cute."
"Oh, hush up." I grabbed his hoodie and threw it on, "Stupid bangs." I pushed them back again.
"Like I said, they make you look cute."

Author's note:
I know it's short and a couple recently have been short, but I try to make up for that by updating lots.
I'll do my best to write a long one soon.
