Best Friends with Bad Judgement -- Short Story 35

••••••••••••••••

"Hey, Rose Petal." Myles snuck up behind me as I stood at my locker. I jumped at his voice, falling back into his arms.

"Myles!" I spun around to face him, still being held close. "I didn't even hear you coming." His goofy grin smiled down at me.

"Surprise!" He laughed, giving me a tight hug.

I laughed as I struggled to get away. I hadn't even opened my locket yet when he snuck up behind me. "Myles, I gotta grab my things."

"The bell hasn't rung." He shrugged, still holding me close by.

"But I still nee-" I felt Myles' grip loosen as his hands moved to tickle my sides. My sentence couldn't be finished between my crazy laughter.

"Smil.. Smi... Myles!" I laughed out. People walking by stared as the cute, dimpled boy tickled the crazy, purple-haired girl. "Pl..ea..se. Please stop." I could hear him laughing at me.

His hands finally stopped, resting on my hips. Smiling, I thanked him; giving him a small kiss on the cheek. Another group of kids walked by; staring the whole time as Myles' lips collided with mine.

"Rose Petal," He caught me watching their backs disappear down the hallway, "Don't worry about them. They're just jealous of my gorgeous girlfriend." Myles wrapped his arms around me once again. It comforted me.

"But we've been dating for months now. Why are they still staring at us?" I sighed, sinking into his arms. Ever since the day the two of us truly met, we've been dating. At first it was more on and off because we both were busy with tough classes, but now that we're done with those, we're dating full on.

We don't mean to kiss too much in front of people- especially not at school- but people still stare at us. I think it's because I seem like a freak with dark purple hair and he seems too good for me, but Myles tells me that's not true. Either way, I love my hair and I'm not planning on changing it anytime soon.

"Like I always say, they wish they could be us." Myles smiled, showing off his dimples that I've loved since I met him.

Laughing at his answer, I rest my head against his chest. I listened to his breathing to relax myself. I knew the bell would be ringing soon and I would have to get to class.

"Have you seen Leah?" I looked up to meet his eyes.

"She was with that guy Bradley I think."

Shutting my eyes, I tried not to groan out loud. In my head though, I was losing it. Leah is my best friend and I love her, but she sucks at picking good guys. Whether she's crushing on them, or already mentally dating them, she is really terrible at picking out which guys are decent people.

I never want to say much about it though because I know she'll come back with how I've really only dated one person- Myles. I had those silly, 1-2 week relationships a few times in middle school, but nothing serious like what I have right now. I'm sure she'll bring that up if I tell her that her judgement of dateable guys isn't there. She's gone after four guys over the course of about 6 months; all of which have either dumped her, cheated on her, or just plain broke her heart. It's been a mixture of the three before too.

"She's a big girl, Rose." Myles' voice broke me away from my raging thoughts, "She can handle the big, bad boys of high school."

"It's in my nature to worry a little bit about her." I shrugged, pulling away from Myles to get into my locker.
