Sang POV

I'm 2 weeks away from starting my senior year in high school and my dad wants to 'talk'. What the hell could he want? Maybe he wants to talk about all the times his wife has 'punished me' over last ten years. Or maybe he wants to talk about how all she ever does is call me a 'whore', 'slut', 'tramp like my mother'. Yea, she's a real peach and just loves to use her sick twisted mind against me. I refuse to become like her or even like my no good half-sister Marie. They don't live all they do is exist and I know that isn't how I want to live anymore. In less than 2 months I'll be 18 and while I will still be a senior in high school, I've already set up some funds for myself to be able to get a place. See while I've been locked away a good portion of my life, I've not only learned a lot of skills, I've also learned a lot about myself - well I guess what I really mean is that I've learned very little about myself. But that's something we can get back to at a later time, right now I need to hear what my father needs to tell me.

"Sang, I know you haven't had the easiest time in this house," I scoff at him. Is he serious? "but I want you to get out."

"What do you mean, GET OUT?! I'm only 17 and I have 1 year left at school!" I yell, I'm frantic now because while I'm more than happy to leave, I haven't had enough time to get everything together. I needed this month and a half.

"No, I don't mean that I'm kicking you out with out a plan. I have somethings to tell you and it will all make since okay?" My so-called father tells me while remaining calm

"Okay, get to it then."

"Well you see your birth mother had a family in Charleston, South Carolina and while they did know about you, I never let them see you. I have had random correspondents over the years with them to update about you but I never allowed them to see you. I didn't want to upset my wife and remind her more that you aren't hers and that I had an affair. Just last month your grandparents passed away in a car accident and their lawyer got in contact with me last week in regards to their estate. Now I know you have figured out your little problem about your birth, so don't try and tell me otherwise, but technically their estate belong to you along with all of their bank accounts and belongings. Now I know what you are thinking, I am sending you there alone. I haven't told Diane yet and I am hoping you will be gone before she wakes up. Everything is in the identity we created for you and all you need to do is meet with the lawyer once you are there. I've looked into schools and there is one about 20 minutes away that I've enrolled you in. The registration for classes is at the beginning of next week and you will need to be at the school to sign up officially. I know I've never been a good father but I'm going to get you out of here. She's getting worse and I've seen your scars, Sang. I can't live with it anymore. So please don't fight me on this. Just leave, live a better life than I can give you. Make your real mother proud."

I'm stunned, I don't believe it. I want to be angry that he kept me from grandparents I never knew I had, but it's in the past now and he's giving me an out right now. I have to take it, I have to go and live. For fucks sake, I get a whole new life!

"A few things dad, we're in Chicago, how am I going to get to South Carolina?" I ask first, I mean I know how to drive but I don't have a car. And I've never tried my ID on a plane.

"The lawyer shipped out the car that they had been saving for you, so you can drive it back. It's down the road, I didn't want to risk either of them seeing it." He tells me. I'm now curious on what kind of car. I mean, I love the classics but I also love motorcycles. I doubt that they had that waiting for me but one can dream right?

"Uh, dad, what kind of car?" I ask and he gets a slight grin before answering.

"A 1965 Ford Mustang convertible with a black top and it's in cherry red. Let me tell you Sang, it's beautiful." Holy shit! I need to leave now, just so I can sit in that perfect automobile!

"One more thing, do I need to bring anything? Or can I just go? I only want my book collection and to leave." I let him know

"You can leave whenever Sang. I have all of your falsified documents together for you and a suitcase upstairs waiting for you to pack with whatever else you want. You have about an hour before Diane wakes, lets do this quickly."

I'm out of my seat before he can say anything else, I quickly trek upstairs careful to not hit anything that creeks and I start packing. I first grab all of my books, the language ones are most important. While I know several languages from being self taught, I always like a refresher. I grab the classics and then some of the newer books in my collection. I leave out the car engineering book in case something happens on the road and I need to fix it. I throw that in my old book bag and hurry into the bathroom to grab some toiletries in case I stop on the way. I throw the little make up I own into my book bag and I think I am ready to leave. I don't bring any clothes except some underwear and extra t-shirts. I hate everything I own, but I know I'll need something extra on the road until I get to South Carolina.

I quickly get downstairs and find my dad waiting to take me to my new car.

"Got everything?"

"Yea, I think so. Lets go."

"Oh Sang, here is a cell phone. It has the lawyers number in it. When you get into Charleston, call him. He will be at the house within minutes. Getting you set up is his priority. Also the address is programmed into the GPS of the phone. So just follow that. Here is also $2,000 to get you there. It came from the accounts that are now yours. The lawyer will explain everything else." He lets me know while handing me a brand new iPhone and a wad of cash. Well okay then, this is really happening.

As I'm getting out of the car to get into mine, he hands me the keys and I remember I have one more question.

"Dad, last thing. What's the school called?"

"Ashley Waters High School."
