Chapter 12- Superheroes

Natalie POV:

How am I going to tell Will that his brother is going to die if he doesn't get a liver? Oh and I also have to tell his team, which is like his second family.

"Dr. Manning! Do you have an update on Jay?" Voight asks as I approach the unit.

"Yes. Jay suffered severe trauma to his liver. He needs a transplant if he's going to make it. I'm so sorry."

Everyone's face falls. Especially Hank's. But then I notice Erin Lindsay running up to us.

"What? Oh no! Please don't tell me he didn't make it!"

"He... He's alive. For now. If he doesn't get a liver transplant, and soon, he's going to die. I'm really sorry."

"Test me! I'll gladly donate my liver, kidney, or whatever else he may need!"

"Test all of us." Hank says stepping up and pulling Erin into a big hug.

I give them a slight nod before I head over to the lounge.

"Will...?"

"He needs a liver transplant?" He asks as he turns towards me.

"How did you..."

"Maggie told me. I... I already got tested. I'm a match Natalie."

"Will! That's great! Are you going to..."

"Of course I am! I... I just wanted to let you know first. I still need to schedule my surgery."

"Will, whatever you what to do is fine with me. He's your brother. And I will support you in any decision you make. I love you."

"I love you too!" He says as he kisses me on my check.

We discuss when he should have the procedure done until we come to an agreement. He's going to have it done in an hour. That gives him time to tell Jay's team, and get prep.

"I love you and I'll see you when you get out, alright?"

"I love you to. Don't worry about me Nat. I'll be fine. I'm going to save his life! Just like a real life superhero! I like superheroes..."

"Will, I think you're a little loopy from the anesthesia."

"No I'm not!"

"Whatever, just come back out alright?"

"I will, I will. Love you!"

"Love you too!"

That's it. They take Will back into the OR. I already miss him. What am I going to do without him? I slowly walk into the waiting room and sit next to intelligence.

Neither of the Halstead brothers are out yet. Nor have we received any updates. I'm so worried. Every surgery carries risk. And my mind keeps drifting to the possibility that neither of them make it.

I need Will to make it. He is my everything. No matter what happens I will always be there for him.
