Will POV:
This month is hectic. Natalie has her surgery tomorrow and then we have our wedding! We managed to talk the church into allowing us to move dates around based on how she's feeling. The last thing I want is for Natalie to be in horrible pain during what is supposed to be the happiest day of our lives.
Today is maybe one of the hardest days. I know that this very well could be my last day with her, considering she has the tumor in her lungs. But I have to have faith that Connor will save her.
Natalie is worried. Actually worried might be an understatement. She keeps running around giving me instructions on what to do while she's out recovering. And all that running around is scaring the kids.
They know that she has surgery tomorrow but I told them that she'd be fine. I didn't want to worry them, although I guess I should've told them the truth.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Natalie! You ready?" I call up to her.
"Yeah I'll be down there in a second!" She yells back.
Natalie and I are bringing the kids out to dinner. We thought why not give them one more fun worry free night before we're in the hospital for possibly months.
As I'm making sure Zoe and Owen are ready Natalie comes downstairs. I look over and immediately smile. She's wearing a beautiful violet sundress with her favorite bandanna which also happened to be violet. She had on simple white laced sandals and had done her makeup and her eyeshadow even matched her color scheme.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Alright guys, mommy and I want to talk to you about her surgery tomorrow okay?" I say to the kids.
We ultimately decided to go to Portillos for dinner because it was the first place we went to with Zoe. We thought why not especially considering the fact we will be living off of hospital food for a while.
"What? Is mama okay?" Zoe asks as she chews her
"Well, right now she is. However after the surgery she's going to be very tired and it's going to take her a while to recover, okay?" I ask.
Zoe slowly nods her head while Owen keeps playing with the blocks we let him bring.
"So, Zo Zo I'm gonna bring you to your treatments while mommy is recovering, alright?"
Again Zoe nods her head before devouring her hot dog and slice of chocolate cake. Owen keeps playing with his blocks while shoving his slice of cake into his face. I can't help but smile at that. The two kids, despite being similar in ages, are drastically different.
Zoe, being forced grow up to fast, acts more like an adult then I do sometimes. While Owen, who takes his own sweet time growing up, still very much acts his age if not younger. But I'm glad he's taking his time. Being an adult sucks. I want them to enjoy their childhood as long as they possibly can. The moment you grow up into an adult you can never go back.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I've kept a secret from Natalie and the kids. I managed to get tickets to see Hamilton before it leaves Chicago. Even though it may be a bit old for the kids Zoe has gotten into musicals and stuff so I thought it'd be a great last hurrah before Nat goes into her surgery tomorrow.
When I told them we were going Natalie was shocked, and thought I was kidding. Zoe on the other hand almost started crying and immediately ran to her room to pick out her "most fanciest fairy princess dress". Owen just looked confused before continuing to build "da most tallest building in da whole wide world!"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Around intermission of the show both Natalie and Zoe were crying while Owen was fast asleep. I guess the eight o'clock show wasn't the best idea. But little did they know that the hospital helped me arrange something special. After the show we get to go backstage and meet the actors. And today just happened to be Jamila Joy's last day as Eliza. (AN: Jamila Joy left last week however I still wanted to include her because she was the original Eliza in the Hamilton Chicago cast.)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"You did what?!?!" Natalie and Zoe shout excitedly.
"I already told you guys, we're going backstage to meet the actors. And the hospital did it not me." I say.
"Oh my god Will I can't believe you did this!" Natalie says excitedly before kissing me.
"Momma let's go! I wanna see Eliza and Peggy!" Zoe shouts excitedly before pulling us behind her.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Today was perfect. Even though our whole lives could change tomorrow with one wrong cut I'm glad we did this. I'm glad I was able to make Natalie's day a little brighter. And to see that huge smile on Zoe's face was irreplaceable. I'm never going to forget today, and I'm not going to forget the bad parts either.
As bad as the day may get I know that Natalie and I will make it through this. As long as she's by my side I know everything will be fine. Everything is going to be fine. No matter what.
