3rd person POV:"Natalie hurry up! We're going to be late!" Owen shouts.
Natalie quickly wheels herself in, her long brown hair flowing behind her. As she comes closer her backpack hanging off her chair is quickly evident, as well as the tube coming out, connecting to her feeding tube. Her thick purple glasses gently rest on her nose, allowing her to see.
Being born prematurely left Natalie with quite a few medical conditions. Luckily however, the liver her mother donated all those years ago still works. Unfortunatly for her that didn't save her from other health problems. When she was around three years old she was diagnosed with Elhers Danlos Syndrome, which leaves her joints suceptable to easy dislocations. That's why for long distances she uses a wheelchair, just to prevent dislocating her hip a lot. A few years later she was diagnosed with a GI condition which prevented her from getting proper nutrients from eating her food.
After Natalie passed away Will immediatly named their daughter Natalie Halstead, after her courageous mother. It was a long road to recovery but Will eventually got used to his new normal. He took a break from working for a while, just in an attempt to help both his kids and himself through that diffucult time. Eventually he returned, but never full time. He truly considered leaving Gaffney, but knew deep down no matter how much it hurt to be where Natalie died she would tell him to stay. To stay with their support system. To stay with their family.
However, Will never went near the operating rooms, especially not the one Natalie passed away in. When Natalie had the surgery to place her feeding tube? He insisted it was as far away from that room as possible. Maybe you could call him supersticous, but he just didn't want to open that wound again. Even after many years, it was still raw and open. Nothing ever filled that void in his heart.
Jay urged him countless times to start dating again but Will always refused. He claimed he couldn't ever love anyone how he loved Natalie. He always had a picture of her nearby. Every family trip? He carried her picture with her. He was determined to keep her memory alive, if not him then for his kids.
He stayed in the same house, even though the kids moved out and went on to college, he stayed put. He didn't want to leave this house. The house they first lived in together. The house they first brought Zoe home in, and he brought Natalie home in.
Once he had graduated from college, Owen went on to become an architect. It seemed his avid interest in blocks as a child payed off. Zoe on the other hand went on to become a pediatric oncologist. She was determined to save kids just like Dr. Hansen had saved her all those years ago. Luckily, she has remained cancer free since her initial recovery. For that both her and Will and eternally grateful for. Natalie, despite her many medical conditions, went on and became a pediatrician, with a focus in the emergency department. She knew she had to continue her mother's legacy. Especially in the new Emergency Departemant, named after her mom. Even though her mother never was able to fullfill her residency, Natalie made sure she did.
"I'm ready, are you?" Natalie asked Owen as she approached him.
He slowly nods and they head out to meet Zoe at Gaffney. Once they finally arrived they saw Zoe standing in front of the main entrance. They both took a deep breath and approached the door.
"You ready?" Zoe asks, taking both her sibling's hands in hers.
They both solemnly shake their heads. They've been dreading this day for a while, but they all knew it was ineviatble. They get in an elevator and head up to the ICU. As they exit the elevator the immediate sense of sadness consumed their bodies. This is where their mother spent many days, trying her best to fight off her cancer. And now, they were back.
