Will POV:Three hours. It's been three hours since I last saw Natalie. It's hard. Around the second hour I lost it and called Jay.
He rushed over, as soon as I started talking. He's been by my side the entire time, knowing how hard this is.
About half an hour later Maggie and April came down, after having just finished their shift. Slowly more and more of our colleagues came down, and sat down filling the waiting room to the brim.
I haven't had any updates since the first hour. I've tried sneaking back to see how it's going, but I got caught each time by Connor.
"Will, go sit back down. You're a civilian today, not a doctor. I'll see if I can get an update, okay?" He explains during my last failed attempt of seeing Nat.
"Any updates?" Maggie asks, concern lacing her voice.
I slowly shake my head, and go back to sitting next to Jay. I feel everyone starting to get anxious. All I wanted is an update. I can't handle being this far away from Natalie for this long.
"Will?" I hear Connor say after a while.
"Is she okay? Is the surgery over? Is our daughter okay?" I ask frantically nearly falling over as I got up.
"Your daughter is fine. They got the piece of Natalie's liver and they're about to start the transplant. They're just closing Natalie up, someone will let you know when you can see her, okay?"
I nod my head and sit back down relief washing over me. Natalie is okay. But now I need to worry about our daughter.
I sit in the waiting room, my head in my hands, anxiously waiting for any updates. I glance at the clock and realize that it's already been an hour since Connor updated us.
"Something's wrong, why hasn't there been any update?" I ask fearing for the worst.
"Will it's okay, everything is fine. I'm sure your daughter is fine, it normally takes a while to ensure it all works correctly." Maggie says placing her hand on my shoulder.
"But what about Nat? He said she'd be in recovery soon." I say, tears rolling down my cheeks.
"Don't worry, everything is okay, she's fine." Maggie assures once again, her voice wavering.
I take a deep breath to calm my nerves as I place my head back in my hands. My leg bounces uncontrollably as all these worries flood my mind.
"Dr. Halstead? Your daughter is out of surgery if you'd like to see her?" I hear a surgeon say, but seems so far away.
I glance up, and through my teary eyes I see a surgeon standing there, mask in hand. I can see the confusion on his face as he repeats what he just said.
"Is Natalie okay?" I ask as I stand up to follow him to my daughter.
"I... I thought she was in recovery, I can attempt to find out if you'd like?" He asks, concern evident.
I nod my head before I rush over to my daughter's bedside. I collapse into the chair all my emotions finally catching up to me. I look up and see my daughter lying in the incubator, motionless, hooked up to millions of machines. I used to see this everyday. Back when things were so much simpler and Natalie and I were still working everyday, and she was healthy. I can't wait to get back to that life. I can't wait to get back to paradise.
At that moment I hear a knock on the door. I glance up and see a surgeon standing there, clearly anxious. I stand up quickly, while staying next to our daughter.
"Dr. Halstead?" The surgeon cautiously asks.
"Can I see Natalie?" I ask quickly taking a step towards the surgeon.
"I... um...."
"Can I see her? Is she out of surgery yet?" I quickly ask.
"She... she didn't make it I'm sorry."
