❝ GOODNIGHT, BECK. ❞
CHAPTER FIVE ✎"So, Ethan, tell me about yourself." He cleared his throat and adjusted himself in his seat, staring into my eyes. Our eyes melted together as I stared back, feeling intimated again.
"Well, I have a twin brother. He's my best friend. I'm from here. I'll be twenty-three next month. There's not a lot to me, I guess. What about yourself?" I listened to his every word, feeling more and more interested each time he spoke. He's lying to me; I can see it on his face. There's more to him than he's letting off. I broke my stare and thought about my answer.
"Well, I have a brother who lives with my mom in Michigan, and I'll be twenty-one in nine months," I said. He nodded with a smirk.
"You're very interesting, Beck." My heart raced faster every time he said my name. It made my heart jump out of my chest. He knows nothing about me yet, how interesting could I be?
"So are you, Ethan." We both smiled and ate the rest of our dinner.
"What are some of your hobbies? What do you like to do for fun?" He asked. I set my fork down on the wooden table and locked eyes with him again.
"I like to sing a lot, but I only do that in the car or shower," we both chuckled. "I watch baseball. It's my favorite sport. I go to the gym, and my friend, Lanie, and I play volleyball at the community center a lot." I explained. "What about you? Do you have any hobbies?" I asked. He licked his lips and adjusted himself in his seat, again. Is he more nervous than he'd like to admit? No, it's in my head.
"That's very interesting. And, yes, I do," he started. "I don't have a lot of free time, I'm a busy guy. But, in my free time, I also go to the gym. My brother and I fly out to L.A. a lot, and we hang out with our friends and go to the beach." He sounded so interesting; he had a life. He went out and did things and lived life the right way.
"What do you do for work?" It was my turn to ask. I was very curious, seeing he flew out to L.A. very often.
"I own Dolan Enterprises." He said. My jaw dropped. He smiled and laughed a little.
"Yeah, I get that a lot. My dad founded it, but he handed it over to my brother and I when he passed." He said. I was surprised. I hadn't even considered the possibility of him being related to Dolan Enterprises.
"Don't you go to school? I've seen you around campus a few times" He nodded and took a sip of his glass of scotch.
"Yes. Like I said, I'm very busy. My brother graduated last year, before me. He takes over at work for me when I need to study or whatever. I take most of the courses online; I don't like a lot of attention." He explained. I was surprised. This is not at all who I thought I was meeting.
"Well, good for you. That's fantastic." I smiled, and he returned it.
"Thank you. It's not easy sometimes, but I think I've got the hang of it." He said. I smiled.
"No need to be cocky," Him and I both laughed. I picked up my water, took a sip, and then set it back down.
After he paid for our dinner, he told me he'd drive me home. He was being a gentleman, and I appreciated everything he was doing. He opened my car door, made sure I was walking in front or beside him at all times, and he walked me to my doorstep.
"I had an amazing time, Ethan. Thank you for everything." I said. He smiled and looked into my eyes.
"No problem. I had a great time, too. We'll have to do this again, soon." He smirked and I nodded, feeling excitement and happiness rush through me.
He wants to see me again.
He smiled and pulled me into a soft, comforting hug. He pulled away, leaving a gentle kiss on my right cheek. I could feel my face burn up, feeling nothing but excitement.
"Goodnight, Beck."
"Goodnight, Ethan."
