FUCK
CHAPTER SIX

"How did it go?" Lanie asked as I entered her apartment. I smiled and set my wallet and phone down on the table. She smiled widely and waited for my answer.

"It could not have gone any better." I finally said. She squealed with excitement and threw her arms up around me. I laughed along with her.

"I'm so happy for you! Ask him out tomorrow night!" I raised an eyebrow and leaned myself against the marble countertop.

"No, I'm not asking him. I'm tired of being too available to men that don't deserve it. If he calls or texts me, perfect. If not, he's not meant for me." I explained. She nodded and picked up her phone.

"You down for lunch with Gage?" She asks. I agreed and picked up my things. We leave the house, getting into Gage's car.

"So, tell us everything." Lanie says as she sat down next to Gage. They still weren't an official couple, but I could tell they would be soon. They seemed to really get along, and they were so similar.

"Did you know he owns Dolan Enterprises?" I asked Gage. He nodded, but Lanie's mouth dropped. He laughed at her expression.

"Yeah, thought I'd let you figure that out yourself." He laughed. I shook my head and glared at him.

"Would've been nice to know ahead of time."

"Why? What's the difference?" He asked.

"For one, I would've tried to dress nicer than I was. Two, he's one of the richest men in the city." I said. He looked at me as if I was crazy.

"What?" I asked.

"What does his financial status have to do with anything?" I don't want him to get the wrong idea, the money doesn't matter to me. I scoffed and laughed.

"I can't even afford a fucking car, and you set me up on a date with one of the richest men in the whole city!" I was frustrated, not angry.

"I promise Ethan doesn't care what you drive. He really just wants and needs someone who loves him for who is he is." Gage said, putting the emphasis on "needs."

"Thank you for talking to him. I've wondered about him for so long, and now he wants a second date. That's what he said, at least. Hopefully he wasn't just trying to make me feel better." They seemed genuinely happy to hear it.

"Oh my god, Beck, that's amazing!" Lanie cheered. I smiled and agreed.

"How long have you liked Ethan?" Gage asked. I looked down and told him.

"Almost two years."

"What? I just heard about him last week!" Lanie exclaimed. I shot her an apologetic look and she shook her head.

"In all seriousness, now... you need to be careful, Beck." Gage said. I was curious as to why.

"Why? What's wrong?" I asked, nervously.

"Ethan has some sort of a reputation," I felt nauseous as to what his 'reputation' was. I really wanted things to work out, and I didn't want that to be ruined.

"Tell me more." I said. He sighed deeply, taking a sip of his water.

"He tends to take women home, fuck around with them a few times, and then on to the next. Just, watch out. Please." He said.

"Typical white rich man, huh?" Lanie said, jokingly. I felt a pang of sadness and my heart broke a little. Gage shot me a sincere smile and put his arm around Lanie.

"Fuck."
