MAYBE YOU'RE RIGHT
CHAPTER TEN

The next morning I awoke in my own bedroom. The white duvet sprawled over me as my arms and legs spread across the mattress. As soon as the sun peered past my curtain and hit my face, I immediately thought of the previous night. Ethan and I watched movies all night long until I needed to get home.

"Hey, it's getting pretty late. Can you drive me home?" I asked nicely. He smiled. "Of course." We both got off the bed and put our shoes and jackets on, and he drove me back to my house. We both got out of the car and he once again came to the door with me. He hugged me tightly and whispered something inaudible into my ear. I was about to ask what he had said, but he quickly pulled away and waved goodbye to me before I could.

I went inside with a wide smile on my face. It was a night for the books. I went into my room, the smile on my face was never-ending. I sat down on my bed, checking the time. It was almost two in the morning, but I knew Lanie would be awake, so I called her. She picked up almost immediately.

"Tell me everything." She demanded." It was great. We went to his place, watched some movies and ordered sushi takeout. I had a great time. But, my dearest best friend, I am very tired. In other words, good-fucking-night." I said as I hung up. She scrambled to say "wait," to stop me, but I didn't want to talk. I took off all of my uncomfortable clothing and went to bed.

The next morning, I woke up around ten. I did my usual weekend-morning routine, brushed my teeth and hair, got dressed. I made plans with Lanie again today, of course. Gage had some things going on apparently so it would just be us.

I heard a car honk outside, signaling that she was there. I stood up from my bed and exited the house quickly. As soon as I opened the door, I could feel the cool air hit my face, making me feel refreshed. I took a deep breath in before stepping into Lanie's new car.

"Explain." I laughed and shook my head. There really wasn't anything else to tell.

"I told you everything. It was a simple date." I explained. She raised an eyebrow at me, I could feel the suspicion.

"Ethan Dolan, simple? Are we talking about the same person? That man should not be staying simple on a second date." She started the car and drove away. I looked at her in disbelief.

"Money isn't what matters, Lanie. It's about who you're with and just being together. Maybe if you'd listen to me for once, you wouldn't be in the situation you're always in." She stayed silent and didn't look at me once. I felt proud to get that out, but I felt guilty immediately afterwards.

"Maybe you're right." She said after a minute or so of silence. I looked at her as she stared straight ahead.

"Yeah," I stated plainly. "Maybe I am."
