"I believe that everything happens for a reason. People change so that you can learn to let go, things go wrong so that you appreciate them when they're right, you believe lies so you eventually learn to trust no one but yourself, and sometimes good things fall apart so better things can fall together."- Marilyn Monroe

I began to stuff my clothes into my backpack at a rapid pace. I didn't want to stay here any longer; only for Levi to tell me how I was making a great mistake.

I already knew I was.

He didn't have to tell me twice.

"Will you just stop so we can talk about this? I don't want you to leave Wake Forest.."

"It's best I leave, Levi. No one has to get hurt this way."

"Stay," Levi reached out and wrapped his fingers around my wrist. "Please."

I swallowed hard and looked down at his hold on me. "I don't have any other choices, remember?" I twisted my wrist out of his grasp.

"You do have a choice. You can stay here and we can work this out. Well think of something together."

"I can't stay here with you or Imogen or Sienna or Travis. I have to leave you all behind so I don't have to get hurt again. It's selfish yea, I know, but it's the only way I won't get hurt and you all can move on with your lives."

He has a long career ahead in law enforcement.

He'd meet a nice girl one day and they'll have a family.

---He deserves a life free of Maisie Brooks, so he can have the life I want for him.

"I can't help you if they find you, Mais."

"Silly, I wouldn't expect you to. Do your job."

Realizing he couldn't change my mind, Levi offered to give me a ride.

I asked that he drop me off at the abandoned convenience store I once told him about. I'd catch a bus in the morning but I thought the safest place for me to sleep tonight was there.

Levi pulled into the parking lot and put the car in park. He looked over at me, "You sure I can't take you to the bus station?"

"This is good." I unbuckled my seat belt and put on my backpack.

He tapped the steering wheel with his fingernails and looked out the window.
