"What am I supposed to do, Caleb? He broke up with me over text!" Alex sobbed into my shoulder.
"If he broke up with you like that he was a total dick anyways." I pat her back trying to comfort her. "You can do better. I promise you." She sobbed more into my shoulder but after a few minutes she sat up, wiping her nose with a scrunched up tissue.
"I guess you're right. He was really m..mean to me when we were together." She sniffled more and then broke down in tears again. "But I love him!"
Oh boy.
~~~
Well as you may or may not know, my name is Caleb Cupid. Because of my last name, everyone assumes that I'm good with love. Partially, I am. The advice part of it.
Many people surround me at school. I guess you could consider me 'popular.' I don't think of myself as popular though. I just like to play video games and geek out over Will & Grace on the weekends. Sometimes I'll read webcomics. I'm really a huge nerd but I have the same social status as the quarterback.
I have light pink hair and yes, I was born with it. I suppose it's because I was supposed to be a ginger, but something in my genes mutated. Kind of like when people are born with those white patches in their hair. Except mine's pink. Anyways, I have my mothers gray eyes along with her slim figure. I'm really feminine to be a guy. Personality wise and physically.
Oh and a big shocker, I'm gay.
Barely anyone knows about it except my mother and Alex. Alex is like family so of course she knows. I don't really want anyone else to know because with that type of information it could spread like a wild fire. I don't want to risk my reputation on such a minor thing, but things happen like that all the time. Oh well, past the introduction, here comes the story of Calebs Life 101.
~~~
"Caleb, honey?" My mom called from downstairs. "Alex is here to see you." I put down the book that I was reading and got up from my chair.
"Coming!" I rushed downstairs and swung around the post.
"Hey Mr. Cupid! How are you this mighty fine evening?" Alex had a goofy grin plastered over her face and she stuck her tongue out. She looked like an overzealous anime character getting ready to go on a field trip.
"Why, I'm just magnificent Ms. Suzuki. Thank you for asking you weirdo." She giggled at my reply and then she engulfed me into her arms for a hug.
"Have you gotten taller?" She asked mockingly. She knows I'm shorter than she is but only by half an inch. She's 5'8".
"No. I haven't." I pout at her stupid joke and she starts squealing like she saw the cutest thing on Earth.
"とてもかわいい ! You're so cute!" Did I mention she was Japanese? Her parents came to America when her mother was pregnant with her and gave Alex an American name so she could have two cultures. She takes yearly trips to Japan for the culture festival.
"Oh shut up." I push her away from me and she giggles again. What a crazy woman. We headed upstairs after raiding the pantry for snacks.
"So have you found any cute guys yet?" She questioned as she flopped onto my bed with a bag of Doritos. I gave her an odd look.
"Shouldn't I be asking you that? I am technically the 'Love God' or whatever everyone calls me." She stuffs a chip in her mouth and gives me that stare.
"Maybe but I'm your best friend and I should know about your love life too." She argued. I couldn't argue back because, well. Fair point.
"I haven't found anyone yet." I said bluntly. Her face went from blatant disappointment to a sudden realization. That look that she has on her face now is never good. Even when you think it might be it never is.
"I heard rumors that there's going to be a new guy soon! I don't know exactly when or what his name is but I've heard he's pretty hot!" She beamed all of a sudden.
"And that's supposed to be good?" I ask her. She scoffed.
"Of course it is! You can get some fresh meat!" She exclaimed like I didn't hear her the first time.
I sigh and look at her with all the seriousness I could muster up. "And what if he doesn't swing that way? He could get a girlfriend in a week. Or what if he's homophobic? And a complete asshole?" She took a second to think about it.
"But what if he isn't a complete asshole and ends up liking you?" She pushes. I ponder the idea for a few seconds and then brush it off.
"I doubt it. Now, lets get this homework done." I say quickly changing the subject.
She notices the change but doesn't say anything.
We start our homework and I can't focus. How come I haven't heard anything about this new guy? If it's such a big deal why haven't I heard of it? I mean, I am in the middle of the rumor circle.
I'll have to get to know him wether I'd like to or not.
