As we made our way down the sidewalk, the day started to get colder as the sun got lower. Street lights are about to turn on in at least an hour to 45 minutes from now, yet he insists we walk to the park. It's quiet between us, though our hands are conjoined. He brushes his thumb over my knuckles soothingly, making a faint smile tug at the corner of my mouth.
When we get to the park, he leads me to one of the tall trees in the middle. The first thing I see is an old but vintage wicker basket resting on a sprawled out blanket with sitting pillows, a bottle of champagne along with two champagne glasses in the basket.
A soft smile spread across my face as I observed the scene in front of me. "You did this?" I asked, looking at the boy beside me. He smiled down at me, a small blush crossing his cheeks.
"Well, I didn't think that apology was going to go as smoothly as it did, so I made this to help." He muttered, looking down. I leaned over to him, pressing my lips to his cheek for a quick appreciative kiss.
We sat down on the pillows, Daniel handed me a sandwich as he opened the champagne and poured a glass, handing it to me.
"Where did you even get this?" I asked, looking at him. He poured his glass and took a sip before answering.
"My mom left the alcohol fridge unlocked after her binge last night. I took it upon myself to take a bottle, she wouldn't notice anyway. The damn fridge is nearly empty when it was just full the other day."
I nodded silently, not knowing how to reply. I took another bite of my sandwich.
"Did you read chapter 48 of the Mythology text book?" Daniel suddenly asked, breaking the brief silence between us. I looked at him puzzled.
"No? That chapter wasn't about the Gods as much. Why?" I replied, taking a sip.
"I'll tell you later." Daniel smirked. Oh.
"Why did you bring it up now then, you- you green giant?!" My mind immediately went to something dirty. The look on my face made him laugh.
"Calm down, pinkie. It's nothing bad." He chuckled, pulling out his phone.
"Somehow I don't believe you." I said. Bridges by Koresma started playing off his phone, giving the atmosphere a calming vibe.
He looked at me, eyes wild and full of excitement. "You don't have to." Just then, the street lights came on all around us, lighting up the streets. A luminous light came on above us, too. I looked up to see that the branches were decorated in dangling fairy lights. It made my heart flutter. I looked over to Daniel to see him beaming at me.
"Sorry, I tend to stare at beautiful people."
I blushed, and snapped my gaze away. His hand found his way to mine in a comfortable grasp.
~~~
Hic.
"Pinkie, are you drunk already?"
Hic. Hic.
"Ha, no." Hic. "I'm perfectly fine." Hic.
"Mmm. Your hiccups are cute." Daniel teases. My face gets warm and I hide behind my sandwich.
"Shh- Shut up Daniel!" I scold, or try to.
He just laughs at me. He takes an extra blanket out of his bag and wraps it around our shoulders, pulling me close.
"You know, I really like you, Caleb." He says. "I'd say I fell in like like with you."
"Pff." I stifled a small laugh. I looked up at him with a grin. He looked down at me.
"I think I like like you too."
We looked at the stars together for the remainder of the night. I pointed out the constellations and zodiacs, some of the visible planets, and we saw a shooting star.
"Chapter 48, page 26. 'According to Greek Mythology, humans were originally created with four arms, four legs, and a head with two faces. Fearing their power, Zeus split them into two separate beings, condemning them to spend their lives in search for their other halves." Daniel suddenly spoke, breaking the content silence that had dawned among us for a few moments. He looked at me, with a sincere gentle smile.
"I think I've found my other half."
I smiled. No no, I grinned. I leaned up and planted a gentle kiss on his lips. I looked deep into his beautiful multi-colored hazel eyes.
"I feel the same exact way."
A gentle breeze wafted passed us, sending a calming silence through the city. I couldn't help but sigh with the wind.
I'm happy.
