Julie's PoV:
Merry turns to me, tears in his eyes and hugs me, releasing a sob.
'Merry, come on. Let's go get something to eat.' I say, putting an arm around him, and walking down the stairs to the hall.
We sit at a table, me, eating an apple next to Merry, who hasn't touched his. He sits with his arms in front of him, hands laced together. I look at him and see he is crying.
'Merry, it's okay.' I say quietly. He looks up and I see his eyes are red.
'That feeling of abandonment, hopelessness, like you are alone? I've been through that. Twice. The first, I had someone to comfort me, like my sister, who was the second time. She abandoned me in an hour of need. I know how you feel.' I say, hoping he won't feel completely sad. I remember a joke Karen told me to cheer me up.
'Hey Merry. Why can't ponies sing?' I ask.
'I don't know. Why?' Merry responds.
'Cause their hoarse.' I say. He giggles and I feel good. I cheered up a friend. I hand him his apple and he takes a bite. We sit there in silence for a while before he speaks.
Merry's PoV:
'So... let's talk about something else.' I shoot to her.
'Well... how about the weather? It's... Warmish.' Julie tries.
'Thats the best you can come up with?' I ask sarcastically.
'Hey I'm trying my best here.' She says, playfully hitting my shoulder.
A lady comes over and sits down with us and I look at her.
'You two look like your having fun.' She says. ' I'm Éowyn. Who are you?' She asks, extending her hand to me. I shake it and introduce myself, and so does Julie.
'Merry.'
'Julie.'
'Oh yes! My brother Éomer told me about you! Are you Merry's girlfriend?' Éowyn asks. I snort and look at Julie, who has turned red of embarrassment, and puts her head down.
'No we're just friends.' I say.
Julie's PoV:
I cannot believe she asked me that. Of course I am not Merry's girlfriend.
'Well, I think I am going to get some air.' I say, getting up.
'I'll come with you.' Merry says, but I stop him.
'No it's okay Merry. It was nice talking to you miss Éowyn.' I say.
'And you to Julie.' She says back. I take my purse and walk out f the hall into the daytime.
While we were in there, it seems clouds wanted to show themselves, and I can smell the sweet fragrance of oncoming rain. I sit on the ground and look at the small village of Edoras. I fiddle with my bracelet as the people go about their business and stuff.
I hear someone come up to me and stop, and I sigh.
'Merry please I just want to be alone.' I say and look behind me. Oh. It's just Legolas.
'Oh sorry Legolas I thought you were Merry.' I say. He chuckles and looks at the village.
'Well I just came to say that the people are preparing for the storm.' He says. 'It won't be bad, but enough.' He says and looks at me. He squats down and taps my wrist.
