Today, he took me to a cafe for our date.
We took a seat by the windows and sat across from each other.
He wore a simple plan tee and an olive green coloured coat that complimented his tanned skin perfectly. He looked purely amazing.
I shifted nervously in the seat as the waitress handed us our menus. He didn't glance at our waitress—who was prettier than me in every way imagined—but she practically eyed him the entire time except to throw me a dirty look.
"What would you like?" He asked me with a confident grin upon his face.
"Turkey sandwich with mayonnaise, please," I whispered while giving him a shy smile. Out waitress jot that down and immediatly directed her attenion to him.
He ordered quickly and handed her the menus without even a thank you. She left with a dissaproving sigh as he turned his attention to me.
"So, why turkey with mayo?" He beamed as he took a sip from the drink that sat next to him on the table.
I blushed slightly as I gazed out the window next to me. Outside, the sun had started setting, causing the sky to turn orange, pink and a faint glow of purple.
The sky that night was exactly the same.
"It's my favourite food and the only thing my dad would make," I started as I managed a weak smile. "But one terrible accident a year ago listed him as a missing person.
"I'd been sitting eagerly at the dinning table as my mom finished cooking our Chirstmas dinner when I heard the phone ring. My mom picked it up and within seconds, I heard a soft weep. My dad was a pilot and apperently his plane was caught in a blizzard and it crashed, leaving more than a hundred dead and twenty missing. My dad being one of the missing," I faltered the last line. "That night, my mom pretty much just threw herself away and gave up on really living. I was then almost expected to be the adult and responsible one in the family when my mom would go out drinkning almost every night. I cooked, took care of the bills and got a job. Everything changed."
He frowned and came over to my side of the booth and wrapped an arm around me just as the waitress returned with our food. This time, she looked really annoyed and left as my platter of sandwich clattered against the table, making me jump.
"You know, I don't even really go to school," I whispered softly as I leaned closer against him. I could smell the colonge he wore and just a hint of ment. "I just wish my dad could be here..."
I twisted my head towards him and saw a smile waver across his face.
Then, within seconds, I saw the face of my dad, smiling at me from the edge of the table.
"Daddy?" I shot up and off seat. He moved over allowed me to get closer. "Are you...Really here?"
My dad smiled warmly and brought me in for a warm embrace. It was the moment I'd been waiting for all my life yet, it didn't feel enough.
"I'm here sweety, I'm back now," he kissed my hair and I let a tear slip.
"But dad, where were you when mom and I needed you?" I pulled away, eyes red. He stared blankly at me as I wiped my face with my sleeve. "Where were you when I had to support this family when mom and I needed most? Where..."
Everyone in the cafe now stood silent as I walked away from my dad, feeling an awful tug at my stomach but yet a burden I'd been carrying was finally gone.
