Every girl has a celebrity crush and mine just happened to be filming in town.
It was one of those few hot summer days in Vancouver. My friend and I had just gotten off the skytrain and started our mission to find the area where they were filming. I could feel my heart racing and hands shake as we started down Griffith Street without much thought as the sun shone down on our backs.
“Are you sure you know where we’re going?” My friend asked me. I chuckled nervously as I reached into my bag to check the map that I had printed out the night before. I was pretty sure that I was prepared but who knew.
“Yeah, it’s down this way,” I pointed across the street just as the stoplights flashed green again. We confidently strode across the deserted street and I froze again to check the map. “I think it’s this way…”
“You think?” She practically screamed at me. I gave her an awkward smile and went ahead while she trailed behind. “What if we get lost?”
“Well, you have your phone right?" I whirled around and asked with a big, hopeful grin. Inside, I could feel butterflies in my stomach as my anticipation grew.
"Yeah," she said as she reached into her pocket and showed me the phone as I let out a breath of relief.
"Then let's get going!" I charged onwards to our destination, Robert Burnaby Park.
After what seemed like hours, as we passed Byrne Creek, I could feel my enthusiasm growing weary and my feet starting to hurt. We crossed one more street when my friend exclaimed to be tired and wanted to rest a bit. I too, felt the sweat crawling upon my back as I urgently tried to find where we are.
"Are you sure we're not lost?" She sighed as we stopped near some shade on the side of the street. I resorted to my map once again for the millionth time.
"Pretty sure..." I hesitated as I pointed the way I thought would take us there.
"If we're lost, I will kill you." my friend muttered once again as I beamed with confidence.
If we did find him—Logan Lerman—then I'd be so gracious and this trip wouldn't be much of a waste of time.
As the time passed, I could feel us getting more lost and my friend had a stomach ache.
"You okay?” I patted her back softly, trying to help. She clenched her stomach as I felt my feet go cold and my face fill with worry. We would need to find her a place to rest at soon.
So onwards we go on this adventure, now not just searching for a park but also a rest place.
Finally, after walking for countless minutes, we crept close to a pizza shop, in a part of town I've never been at. This was probably the most dangerous thing we could be doing but hey, I was on a mission.
"Let's go in there," I exclaimed as I rushed ahead, eager to seek directions. I whipped open the door to the restaurant as warm smells of pizza filled me. "Mm..."
"Hi, how can I help you?" An old man came from behind a cash counter. He had a foreign accent that I just couldn't pick out. I smiled as my friend asked to use the washroom.
"Oh I'm looking for directions to..." I trailed off as I reached for my map. He offered me a seat at a table as I pointed read out my destination. "Here."
"That's far," he squinted his eyes as he pulled out a larger version of my map. He flipped a few pages as my friend returned from the washroom. "You would need to walk a long way."
"Uh huh," I nodded while adding an apologetic smile. I didn't really intend to cause him trouble. "So how would we get there?"
"Well, that depends," he explained. "Are you going by car or foot?"
