I wake with a start, surrounded by completely unfamiliar surroundings. I noticed that I was in the hospital and Kakashi was sleeping in a chair. The light suggested that it was some time just after mid morning. I looked all around me, trying to remember what had happened. So far, all I could remember was feeling a nauseating pain and then blacking out. I startled as the door opened, revealing an elderly doctor with a kind and open face. "So you're awake," She says with a smile as she comes over to take my vitals. Kakashi slowly wakes up and looks relieved. "What happened to me?" I whisper hoarsely.
"You had too much chakra buildup. It isn't good for your body, you know?" She says as she writes something on her clipboard. I blink and frown. "But I wasn't trying to build chakra." I tell her in confusion. The Doctor then spends the next ten minutes explaining from the beginning. What she told me was shocking but not overly so. It made sense and yet it didn't. I sigh and look over to Kakashi who watches me intently. I was ready to leave, wanting to spend time with him alone.
It took two hours to get me discharged, but by the time I was it was noon. "Are you ready to go home?" He asks as he picks up a carryout from Ichiraku's. I nod quietly and look down, in a confused way. My thoughts make no sense as I am led back home. It only takes a few minutes to get to our new place, deciding to eat first and unpack later. Kakashi had ordered us Miso and pork ramen with eggplant and Naruto fish cakes. It was absolutely delicious, and gone entirely too soon. "You have some really good taste in food, I murmur as I slurp the last of my bowl. He grins and stands. "You are just saying that," He laughs as he puts everything away. But I wasn't really just saying it... I wanted to be honest.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~TIME SKIP~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Several days pass and we have been living at the new place for most of it. It took several hours to get things situated. The last thing that was brought over was the bed, which had had A LOT of use in the last several days. I was lying in bed, cuddling against Kakashi's chest when the knock came. We look at one another for a moment in confusion before shifting out of bed, our faces reflecting one another's feelings. There was a runner at the door, kneeling in respect. Kakashi and I look at one another in surprise.
"Did you need something?" He asks the young ninja quietly. She looks up at us and smiles. "The dispatch team is on their way back. Lord Third wanted you to know that the mission was successful, Lady Shizuka," She says as she looks as me and smiles. My eyes widen and my heart nearly stops. "Then... My brother... My brother is coming home? He's on his way home!" I cry out excitedly as I grab Kakashi's hands. Kakashi looks at the messenger warily. "Do you know what his condition is?" He asks the messenger. She shakes her head. "Sorry, I don't all I know is that they are on their way back to the hidden leaf," She apologizes as she stands. "Lord Third said for you to stay here until he comes to get you, it probably will not be until late tonight or early tomorrow morning," She says as she looks at me.
I nod in understanding, turning excitedly to Kakashi. Kakashi nods to the messenger girl as she disappears. As we reenter the house, I turn and make my way to the kitchen. I look to Kakashi who smiles and grabs the mini cakes we made yesterday. "Got a sweet tooth?" He asks as he takes one and begins to eat it. I nod and grab a jelly-filled cake from the tray, stuffing most of it into my mouth. He laughs and takes another bite of his cake, groaning as he gets a bite of tart lemon jelly.
It is a very quiet rest of the night, the two of us playing shogi for a while before bed. After a while, We shuffle to bed, me disappointed that no one had come to get me yet. I lie there in bed, snuggling Kakashi as I slowly drift off to sleep. He strokes my back, murmuring sweet nothings in my ear. I smile softly as I listen to his deep and steady heartbeat, my mind going hazy as he pulls me even tighter against him. I was truly head over heels for Kakashi. Not only that, I was truly happy for once in my life. What more could I need?....
I wake to banging on the front door, the sound echoing through the entire estate. Kakashi is already untangled from me, padding towards the door. I quickly run my hands through my hair and follow suit. Kakashi opens the door to see a messenger standing in front of it. The messenger meets my eyes and straightens immediately. I am instantly awake. "Take me to him," I instruct before he can speak. He nods silently and makes a gesture for us to follow him. Kakashi throws me my shoes and we quickly put them on before racing out the door.
It only takes a few minutes to get to were we are needing to go, but the place that the messenger leads us is the hospital. I rush the nurse through the process and we race to his room. I stop, directly in front of his door, taking a deep breath or three. Or five. I attempt to prevent myself from Hyperventilating. "Breathe," Kakashi whispers in my ear as he squeezes my shoulder. I take in another deep, slightly unsteady breath and open the door. Bracing myself, I cross the threshold and Take a look upon my brother's face for the first time in 8 years.
The first look will be burned into my mind for the rest of my life. His face was covered in cuts and bruises, most of it nearly a shocking color of black, blue, purple and yellow-green. He has a massive scar running down his face, stretching from the top of his right eye and going sideways until it stretches past his lip. His eyes are closed and his face looks so peaceful. He is almost unrecognizable, his hair long and overgrown and tangled, very much in need of a haircut. He was painfully thin, his skin sheet-white.
I look to Kakashi for reassurance as I cross over to him and touch his hand, a choking emotion erupting in my chest. His eyes begin to flutter before finally opening to look around the room. When his eyes lock with my own, he closes them for a moment. "Zuka?" He asks quietly as if he is trying to remember me. I nod, a tear rolling down my cheek as I squeeze his hand gently. "Yes, I'm here. You're safe Nobuo," I whisper as I let a few tears shed softly wiping them away as they fall.
He was safe. I want to shout for joy. But the tricky thing is, he spent the last 8 years being tortured for information. If he decided he never wanted to be a shinobi again, I wouldn't blame him. The door opened and I instantly became surprised. At the entrance stood my mother, tears streaked on her face but alight I have never seen in her eyes before. "Nobuo?" She asks in a shaky voice as her eyes well with tears. Nobuo looks over and lets out a smile. "Mother.." He whispers as he smiles. His eyes find Kakashi's and he takes in the fact that Kakashi's hand is on my shoulder and he is hovering over me. Taking this all in stride he lets out a small grin. "I'm truly and finally home," He whispers as he closes his eyes and slowly falls asleep.
(Alrighty. New chapter is out. I am truly sorry for the delay. I have not been doing so well. I have been working really hard and trying to balance not one but TWO stories and the upkeep of my 3 bedroom, my dogs and work. It is really hard. Trust me, you NEVER want to work at a subway. Sounds easy but it really isn't an easy job. Especially when things get busy. But I have four chapters in the beginning stages so stay tuned! I am off Monday and Tuesday so bet you ass I will be writing. Hope you like it and have a great day XD )
