She could smell their fear, good... though the parents were trying to put on a brave face for the kids.

Nyx smiled with cruelty.

She could tell the parents were good and experienced god hunters, problem was, they didn't deal with gods on her level, only more minor Pagen gods and they knew it too.

She was not a minor Pagen god.

"I'll be alright" The mother said to the younger hunters "Stay behind me"

"But we know it won't be, don't we?" Nyx giggled.

The shadows slowly stretching towards the hunters.

The older hunters tensed.

"That's why you corrupted that werewolf did you not? Why you dragged out the darkness inside his heart. Because you knew without his bite you wouldn't stand a chance. You didn't expect him to change sides so quickly. I admit I was worried about trusting a wolf who's bite could kill me but I believe it paid of in the end, don't you?"

They glared at her, it seemed all they could do.

"Mum, Dad, what's wrong? Why aren't you attacking her? I've seen you do it before, like all those other ones!" Their daughter cried out, a slight panic edging into her voice.

The shadows slowly became corporal, wrapping themselves around the hunters legs, slowly creeping upwards.

The children struggled.

But the parents did not...

The mother then started to struggle but not to get free. Nyx watched as the human managed to turn around to her children, the father soon followed.

She wrapped them up into a hug, the shadows making her movements stiff but they were both strong enough to comfort one another in their last moments.

The girl fell into what seemed shock, unable to believe what was happening.

"Mum, please" The boy pleaded.

Nyx wanted to laugh.

How foolish humans were, didn't they know that there last seconds on earth meant nothing? No one would remember them. No one would care.

She watched their words of comfort with a sneer. How utterly pointless but despite this, she let them have their few seconds.

Nyx wasn't sure why she hadn't killed them instantly.

Maybe because it felt right.

Maybe it was because she was amused by them, who knows.

"Shhh, it'll all right, just close your eyes, don't let go of me and close your eyes" She said softly.

The mother closed her eyes and her children did the same, breathing hard.

The father added softly "And don't open them, okay. Take deep breaths"

"Da-" The girl stared to say but Nyx had enough.

On her command the shadows tightened their hold and with one swift movement they struck.

All at the exact same time.

The girl wasn't even able to finish her sentence.

The shadows slit their throats, blood spilled down...

In their last moments two of the hunters in a desperate attempt to live, e even though they had accepted death, grasped their throats, in a pointless attempt to stop the bleeding.

Pointless...

The family of hunters fell as one.
