Adapting and Conquering (The story of Bertha's rise and fall)

Chapter Three

During spanish, I daydream about Jacob being my boyfriend. If he was my boyfriend, I would never bring him to my house because of Bobby. But this is my imagination, so I imagine that he is a perfect brother, and then I imagine that I don't have a brother at all.

Sweet.

"Bertha?"

Heather, one of my best friends at Taft nudges me away from my daydreams.

"Huh?" I say dreamily.

I see Mr. Crowe's large figure towering over me. "I said, is that okay with you Bertha?"

"Um... yeah?"

Then I notice Jacob sit down behind me.

"Wait what? What did I agree to?" I whisper to Heather.

"You said it's fine with you if Jacob joins our group."

I try not to smile.

"He's like a hot Filipino male model that plays basketball." I grin.

"Ew." Heather makes a face."Whatever you say, Bertha."

I can hardly concentrate with Jacob sitting behind me. I feel sweaty, but for some silly reason I'm afraid to make any sudden movements, like he might get scared away if I do.

"Bertha, the bell rang."

"What? Oh sorry Hea-"

I'm about to say "Heather", but when I look up it's Jacob standing there instead. Flanked by Delaney. She must have run from LA just so Jacob can walk her to algebra.

"Hey Jacob! Hi Delaney!"

She smiles, I can tell it's fake, but boy, she's good at acting because it looks almost genuine, and she flips her long hair (it has split ends by the way, but she acts like it's better than everyone else's). "Oh, hey Bertha!!!!!!!!!" Literally. With all those exclamation points and everything.

She then grabs Jacob's arm and leads him out of the room saying "C'mon babe" and "Bye Bertha" all at once.

Before he leaves, he throws me a look over his shoulder like what can I do?, and says "Bye Bertha."

Again, sorry chapters are so short, I promise they'll be longer. I pre-wrote this story beforehand and just recently decided to publish it.
