Me and Jacob stop outside the Algebra classroom, giggling and gasping for air.
Jacob throws open the door to algebra and we jump inside. The entire class turns to stare at us, and I realize with a jolt that I'm still gripping onto Jacob's hand.
Mrs. Alferes glares daggers at us and asks with coldness dripping from her words "Where have you two been?"
Jacob stammers "Um-uh We were just-"
I interrupt him "I tripped on the stairs and Jacob here helped me to the Nurse's office!"
"Yes! Right, exactly!" Jacob jumps in, nodding fiercely. "She could barely walk, and I decided that I would rather miss the first 20 minutes of algebra then leave her on the stairs!"
"Oh really?" Mrs. Alferes inquires. "I suppose that's a good explanation...but you two are still receiving tardies! Now go to your seats and ask another student to explain what you've missed."
"Yeah, okay" Jacob and I both mutter.
I fall into my seat, turn around and find Heather staring at me. "What happened? I can tell by both of your expressions that something juicy happened!"
I grinned at Heather. "Delaney broke up with Jacob and I comforted him! We even hugged!"
"No way! For real?"
"Yep! I told him that Delaney isn't good enough for him."
"Nice work!"
"And you won't believe how soft his hair is!!"
Heather laughed "Damn Bertha! you were all over him!"
I grinned widely. I glanced at Jacob, and noticed he had his head down, and was trying to fight a smile. My heart exploded at his beautiful face.
"Wow look at Delaney, she looks pretty pissed!" Heather whispered
I stole a look at Delaney, who was glowering at a math problem. Her pencil, which she was gripping very tightly in her hand, was pressed against the page, the lead about to break.
"I think she realized that everything this morning was just an act." I laughed.
"Yeah she did!!" Heather happily exclaimed.
"But he was pretty shaken up after she broke up with him... what if she tells him she made a mistake? And what if they get back together?" I whispered in a panicky voice.
"After what you just told me, he seemed pretty happy to be in your arms. But what you told me could be biased. If you want my expert opinion, I need to see the footage." She held out her hand, and smiled sweetly as if waiting to receive a present.
"What do you mean by that? Could we possibly get the security camera footage?" I asked, confused.
"You mean you didn't record it?!?" she wailed. She covered her mouth and looked around at Ms Alferes, who was glaring at her. "Sorry Alferes. Distributive property gets me a little excited!" She called. The class laughed. Then she turned back to me. "It's possible to hack the security camera if we have to. It'll be hard, but we can manage it."
"Seriously? Do you really need to see it that badly?"
"Yes! Me and Katie need to see it to tell you what the next step is!"
"I think he likes me already though!" I protested. "And I don't want you and Katie laughing at me and stuff!"
"Well, break-ups can make everyone a little desperate. You never know, he might have just needed a shoulder to cry on. And don't worry, we won't laugh at you too much."
"But I thought it was more than that..." I said, my high spirits crushed.
"As I said, you never know. Don't worry, we will help you. I'm sure Katie would agree with me."
