I awoke to a loud banging noise down stairs. I guessed it was decorators because Mum had come up with this brilliant idea to have the whole downstairs of the house revamped. I guess it was her way to take her mind of things that were happening between her and Dad. Which were getting worse. When I eventually got home last night, I snuck in and I don't even think either of them realised I had got home so late, they were too busy arguing as usual about some stupid work party that my dad was going to tonight. I honest don't know why they don't just split up, as much as it pains me to say it everyone would be a lot happier.
"Charlotte, are you up?" I heard my Mum calling from downstairs. I decided to ignore her and just pretend I was asleep. I just wanted to stay in bed a while longer. Ignoring her must have worked because she didn't shout me again. I rolled over in bed just in time to see my phone light up. I rubbed my eyes, trying to wake myself up a bit and reached over to grab it from my bedside.
I had three texts, two from Michael who I forgot to reply to last night. The one from last night said:
Michael x - What took you so long to get home? :p xx
and the one which I presumed was from this morning said:
Michael x- Are you awake yet? Do you want to meet me before Justin's tonight? xxx
I quickly replied to him, making countless mistakes because I'd just woke up. I had to keep typing out words because I'd spelt them wrong or added extra letters in by accident. I typed 'yeah sure, what time? Xxx' and then checked the other message I didn't have the number saved as a contact so I guessed it was Ashton. I opened the text:
: Hello Charlotte.
It was definitely Ashton. He was the only person that ever called me Charlotte apart from my mum and dad. I saved his contact as 'Ashton' and then replied writing, 'Morning, Ashton.' He'd been blunt to me so I was blunt back. I hated texting people without using x's or emoticons it always seemed like I was in a mood with the person I was texting or they were in a mood with me.
I decided to get up and get dressed. It was already 11:45am but I'd stayed up late watching netflix the night before so that's why I'd woke up so late. Normally I never got up late, so this was quite weird.
I showered and got dressed, deciding not to do my make up or hair since I'd been doing it later for tonight anyway. I didn't want to go downstairs for breakfast because of the builders or decorators that were down there so I just stayed in my room. I checked my phone but I didn't have any messages, I was slightly hoping for one from Ashton but oh well.
After a while I started to get hungry so I went downstairs and made myself some scrambled egg, I wasn't in the kitchen long before my mum came stumbling in, pulling a suitcase...
The first thing that went through my mind was that she had packed her stuff up and was leaving, and my heart sank and I dropped the fork I was using to whisk the eggs straight onto the floor, it landed with a loud crash.. Everything seemed to go in slow motion.
"For gods sake Charlotte, pick that up." Mum tutted, straightening out her skirt.
My mouth fell open.
"Where..where are you.. going?" I stuttered, suddenly becoming increasingly anxious.
"Well that's what I wanted to talk to you about actually, you wouldn't mind looking after Jackson tonight would you?," she started, whilst looking through the kitchen draw that we kept all sort of letter and leaflets in. "It's just me and your dad decided we wanted to have a night way, you know in a nice hotel somewhere... To sort things out I suppose." She blabbered on whilst shuffling through all sorts of papers that were stored in the drawer, obviously looking for something.
