Despite sorting things out with Michael I decided to spend the weekend alone, he did ask if I wanted to hang out but I turned him down. It wasn't his fault, I just needed time alone to think things through. But now it was Monday and I had to face not only Michael but Ashton as well. I hoped he wouldn't be at school, I didn't want to bump into him mainly because I'd end up apologising when he was the one who needed to be sorry.

I got up early and decided to walk the long way to school again. I hoped setting off late would mean I would avoid people, people who were nosy and would still look at me because of the argument with Michael last week. Luckily I did avoid everyone, and managed to get to school without feeling like I'd killed a man.

As soon as I walked into the building even through all the people walking too and from lessons , I managed to spot Michael stood with Luke over by the lockers.

"Charlie!" Michael shouted running over and wrapping his arms tightly round me. "I've honestly missed you so much," he smiled, unwrapping his arms and inching back so he could look at my face, he placed both his hands into mine and squeezed them gently.

"I missed you too, I'm so sorry again," I gulped. I felt like I was going to cry again although I had no idea why because everything finally seemed like it was back to normal.

"Shh, don't say that word again." He smiled, putting his finger to my lips.

"What word? ... Sorry?" I questioned.

"Shh," he smirked, "I said don't say it."

"Fine," I winked, dragging him over to the lockers where Luke was standing, he looked kind of awkward stood there but I guess he was just trying to give me and Michael some space, which was nice of him.

"I told you both everything would work out," Luke grinned as we approached him, it was weird thinking that he was reassuring Michael that we would both be okay as well as me. All that time I thought Michael hated me he was actually going to Luke for advice regarding us making friends? That was a nice thought.

"Everything was always gunna work out," Michael piped in, opening up his locker and taking out a few books. He turned back around to face us, "Nobody can destroy best friends." He smiled, closing his locker.

"Right." Luke agreed, nodding his head.

"Right," I smiled, looking at them both.

Suddenly a smell of smoke wafted past us and I was greeted, or not really greeted by a familiar accent.

"Luke." Ashton nodded over at us, he said Luke but made eye contact with me which made me laugh. If that was supposed to annoy me then it was a shoddy effort.

"Ashton" Luke nodded back at him, before Ashton walked away and turned a corner so we could no longer so what he was doing.

I couldn't help but smirk a little, I knew he was trying to make me upset but it had really had backfired because yes, I liked him a little bit. I could admit that. But I wasn't going to get involved in his petty games. I was better then that.

"Well that was weird," Michael said, giving me a confused look.

I shrugged at him, not saying anything.

"Didn't know you were besties with him now Luke?" Michael smirked at me.

"I saw him downing a bottle of vodka in the park on Saturday night at like 1am, I was on my way back from a party, I reckon it could have got bad if I hadn't of stopped him," Luke shrugged, brushing it off as if it was nothing. I suppose to Luke it was nothing but to me it meant a great deal. Ashton with alcohol worried me, something about it made me feel sick and unsafe.

"Was he okay?" I chimed in, hoping I didn't look too interested.

Even though I was.

"He was crying a lot, but yeah I guess once we got him home he was fine." He shrugged, again. God why was he so vague with the details I wanted to know everything, but I felt like I couldn't ask anything else so I just nodded.

"I've gotta get going, I have math," I sighed, rolling my eyes. I was dreading this because I had presumed Ashton wouldn't be at school but now I knew he was.

They both nodded and hugged me good bye.

I walked as slow as possible to math, praying that somehow Ashton had decided to ditch school and just go home, then again he probably only came to school today to annoy me, I knew he wasn't bothered about his education one little bit, there wasn't even any reason for him to attend anymore and he hadn't for several days so I couldn't think of any other reason he would bother showing his face today.

"You're late Charlotte." Mr Davis said sternly as I entered the classroom. I ignored him as I caught sight of Ashton sat next to my empty chair at the back of the classroom, he swung backwards and forwards on his chair, nonchalantly chewing gum. He had a red flannel on over a black tee shirt and he looked eye catchingly attractive.

Brilliant.

"Did you hear me Charlotte, you are late." He repeated, looking at me as if I'd just killed someone.

"By all of 2 minutes." I rolled my eyes, walking over to my seat.

"Don't take that attitude with me young lady." Mr Davis shouted, making me jump. Ashton was smirking at me, which made me want to carry on. I wasn't going to make myself look like a weak idiot in front of him. I took my seat next to him, acting as if I wasn't phased one bit.

Even though I was.

"What attitude?" I smile at Mr Davis, taking my books out of my bag.

"Get out of this classroom now." He shouted, his face red and an angry vein sticking out prominently from his forehead.

"Cya," I smirked, picking up my bag from the floor and standing to walk out of the room.

Mr Davis was shaking his head at the front of the classroom, I had never seen him so angry in my life. I didn't think anyone else had either, nobody had ever spoken back to Mr Davis.

Everyone was silent and I suddenly began to feel nervous.

"That's my girl," Ashton suddenly smirked from the back of the classroom. Shocking not only me but everyone else.

I turned around to look at him in complete shock, he stood up and dropped his pen onto the desk, it rolled off and hit the floor.

"Mr Irwin sit down right now." Mr Davis said, pronouncing each syllable in a fierce rage.

Ashton picked his bag up from the floor, and walked to the front of the room to where I was stood at the door.

"Nah." He said, taking my hand in his, he squeezed it tightly. "We'll see you all later." He grinned, looking at me.

I was too shocked and confused to say anything, but I couldn't hold back the tiny smile that was appearing on my face.

"Get back here both of you" Mr Davis echoed through the room as Ashton dragged me out of the classroom and slammed the door.
