CHAPTER 9.

Diving at the closest gun. Not thinking, I pulled it from the gunman's hand. Stupid me. I didn't think this through. What was I to do next? I held the gun there. Standing and shivering. Too scared to materialise anything.
"Wanna play hero bah?" One of them said taking the gun off Danny and coming my way.

"Guy, he's the one, don't shoot." Said another in a low tone

"I don't care, we have to teach this "hero" a lesson" replied the other. At this moment, I was more curious than scared.

"You know what will happen if you hurt the boy" said another. Soon all five of them got into an argument. Hmm, it was that easy huh. I slowly started to move from my position, probably, go back and hide. But I couldn't, my conscience got the better of me and I started getting ideas.

"And where do you think you're going?"

"Bathroom?" I said in a whisper. Then he pointed his gun at me again. He was really furious now. What did I even do to him? Well, I don't think anyone was gonna talk him outta this one. Brace for impact. I covered my face with my right arm.

"FREEZE. PUT DOWN YOUR WEAPON AND SLOWLY TURN AROUND!!"

Yeah baby! The military to my rescue. I've never had this much love for these guys.

"You okay kid?" One of them said to me. I nodded feeling so confident that I helped catch criminals. Maybe at this point the bank would just wire at least half a mil into my account. Who was I kidding. Just then, Danny walked up to me.

"Dude, you saved my life!" Wham! A jab to my ribs.

"Ow! You're welcome?"

"You could have been killed or worse"

"What could be worse?"

"Kidnap, rape, worse?" He replied with an air of frustration.

"I guess I didn't think it through"

"Mr. Ogochukwu, are you okay?" It was Ogbuefi in not soldier attire for the first time. But without a squad? And how did he know i was in trouble? Err, whatever, He was a sight for scared eyes. We went out and got in the DUA van outside and left for home.

"You told me you would get him today!"

"Patience, patience. We nearly had him. You were there, you saw what happened."

"Your fail, not mine"

"I didn't say it was your-- forget it! He trusts you, that'll be his fall"

"Yeah, he trusts me... He does"

The next day at the agency, I met my mum who apparently had been told that I tried to play hero without training. She rushed at me and hugged me, checking for hurt.

"I'm fine ma, you worry a lot. I have superpowers now." I said trying futily to calm a nervous mother.

"If I don't do this, who will" she replied still slightly not satisfied.

"Mr Ogbuefi!" I call to my handler as he goes by. He stops and turns. "I had an issue today at the bank" I continued, freeing myself from mum's grip "I tried to materialise a shield but, nothing happened. I tried a sword. Even a little rod. NOTHING!"
He looked at me, looked around, put his hands on his waist and exhaled.

"Come with me"

Thanks much.
