"All offense, you're fucking dumb!" I laugh, tears nearly rolling down my face. Kyle can barely catch his breath to reply, as he's buckled over on the booth, laughing at his own idiocy.
We've been sitting in the restaurant for an hour (maybe 3?) now, slowly, everyone else left and we continued to eat and enjoy each other's company. Neither of us had brought up Blake (either of them) or the water crisis and because of that no awkward silence had ensued.
Shocker.
Our dinners lay in to-go boxes after being packed what seems like forever ago. Mine is bigger, of course, because I can't eat my entire body weight in starch. Or at least I can't eat my entire body weight in starch in one sitting.
Kyle slowly starts to sober up until we catch each other's eyes and an entire new round of laughs start.
"Um, I'm sorry, but we're closing." A timid waitress looks at us expectantly and it takes everything in my being to not laugh in her face.
I nod and wait for Kyle to slide out before following him out the door and into the car where the lights are immediately turned off and employees start walking to their cars.
"Oops." I giggle to Kyle as we walk to his car. He opens the door for me and I slip in with a thank you.
He turns on the ignition and we both gawk at the time showed on his car.
"Blake!"
I take out my phone to see that no one had even tried to call or text me while I was out. I throw my head back with a groan as I call my dad.
"Hello? Daddy?"
"Hello?"
I rub my temples and close my eyes for a second. "Where's Blake?"
"We put her to sleep an hour ago, Tinny."
"And no one called me!? I haven't gotten to put her to sleep in two weeks and you guys couldn't have even called so I could say goodnight?"
I could practically feel his facial expression.
"Well you were gone with Kyle so how were we suppose to know? Why are y'all out so late anyway? What are you guys doing?" Okay sass.
I take a quick glance at Kyle and look down.
"We're not doing anything." I mutter.
"What? You said you guys hooked up?"
Is he deaf?
"Nooo, I said we didn't do anything." Kyle gets that quirky smile on his face and I can already tell what he's thinking.
"Bye, dad! See you tomorrow! Love you!" I hurriedly hang up before he can say anything else that'll embarrass me.
"Hey, can you take me to Pattern Gardens?"
"What about Blake?"
I sigh with a frown. "I guess I'll have to see her tomorrow. I have to shoot for some campaigns tomorrow so I don't know when or if I'll see tomorrow, sadly. My manager will have the car pick me up from my place early so I don't think there's a point in going back to my parents'."
He nods, but doesn't reply. I get a little more comfortable in the seat and lean back.
We get to PG a while later and he parks in the garage.
"You're going to walk me up?" I ask, my lip unconsciously coming in between my teeth.
"Do you want me to?"
I mean, a little.
"I, uh, don't think that would be good. You know, for you to walk me up."
He gives me the token light skin smirk and I bite the inside of my cheek.
"Come on."
I hesitantly get out the car and lead him to the elevator. He grabs my hand again and tugs me closer to him.
"Kyl-"
"Friends, remember?"
I think it was more than obvious that he was working towards something more than friends, but I didn't say anything because tonight was a good time. We reach my floor and he follows me to my door where I turn around to face him.
"You can't come in."
He raises an eyebrow and looks faux offended.
Or at least I think it was faux.
"Kyle, seriously. We just met. Time is the key."
"What's going to happen if I go in?"
I snort. "How I'm feeling right now? Who knows? We may end up with another Blake." I say jokingly.
"How are you feeling right now?" He grins, his hands fitting my waist.
"Happy. Attracted. Like an actually twenty year old. And who knows, maybe if I were a regular twenty year old we could hook up, do the whole one night stand thing," I can't ignore how his grip tightens ever so slightly. "But, I'm not a regular twenty year old and you're not a regular twenty two year old so we're not hooking up and if this," I gesture between us. "Is going any further, you need to go."
I have to curl my lips to stop myself from laughing at his facial expression. I wrap my arms around his neck and pull him into a hug.
"Hey, I had a good time. We definitely got to know each other better."
He pulls away and kisses my forehead with a sigh. "Yeah...Crazy to think we've only known each other for a day."
I nod, "Especially when your hands keep rubbing my back." He had slipped his hands under my shirt and was running them up and down my back as if I wouldn't notice.
He sends me another lopsided grin before stopping and stepping away.
"Good night, Astin."
"Good night, Kyle."
I watch him get back on the elevator and finally go back into my house. It isn't until I'm half asleep that I realize I left my groceries in my car, at my parents' place.
Fuck.
a/n: I wanted to address the subtle teasing at the end of this chapter. Some people might think I'm contradicting myself with them taking things slow and then her saying they'd hook up, but it was just a tease. I know I'm making Kyle fall fast but that's just how his personality (the one I created for him) is. Y'all are probably like, "Why he always touching her?? His weird ass." But touch and attention are his love languages (that I created for him) so that's that :). Astin has feelings for Kyle they just aren't as romantic for now ;). Thanks for reading; I appreciate it.
