I held on tight to a handle on the roof of the quin jet as we flew towards Germany. Captain Rogers stood next to me in all his Star spangled glory. Natasha was flying the jet, and wearing a fancy tight fitting black leather suit. I felt fairly out of place, wearing only my causal clothes and having cigarettes in my pockets.
"Get ready to drop Captain. We'll fly in behind you," Natasha said, her eyes on the sky. Rogers nodded, then looked at me.
"There wasn't much in your file," Rogers said to me.
"That's the way I want to keep it," I replied bluntly.
"So you're a criminal?" Rogers inquired seriously. It took me a minute to remember the made up past that came with the name Keight Walsh.
"If I wasn't, SHIELD would probably have more information on me, don't you think?" I said sarcastically.
"And now? You're working for the government," Rogers backfired.
"Does it look like I want to be here?" I rolled my eyes. "I'm here because Fury got me out of trouble once, and I'm holding up my end of the deal. Once I'm done, I'm out," I said, the lie tasting acidic on my tongue. I felt guilt churning in my stomach. I hadn't known Rogers for even a day and already I was lying to his face.
"Just taking care of yourself," Rogers commented. I was beginning to get irritated with all his arrogant remarks. Yes, you saved a lot of people. Doesn't mean you're better than me.
"No one ever took care of me. I don't owe the world anything," I said, getting more and more into my fake life by the minute.
I'll admit, there was a certain thrill that came with lying, making up a life for myself I never lived.
Rogers had no comment to make about that. Instead, he prepared himself to jump from the door of the quin jet to the ground below. A loud hiss erupted from the door as it opened.
"We'll be right behind you!" Natasha yelled above the wind. Rogers nodded, and with one smooth movement jumped to the ground. Natasha pulled the jet up and around, following at a distance.
"I don't think he likes you," Natasha said, swiveling her head and grinning at me.
"I don't particularly like him either. He's too, righteous," I said, staring out at the closing door.
"He just doesn't understand. He fought a war. You're just tryna get by," Natasha said, steering the jet slowly.
"Yeah," I breathed, Rogers expression of disapproval seared into my memory.
We were still a fair distance away when I spotted Loki. He was tall, a golden horned helmet on his black hair and long green and gold robes adorning him. He had his arms out, a large golden scepter in one hand. Everyone around him was kneeling, cowering below him. Some distant, heroic part of me wanted to jump out of the plane and knock his lights out, but the rest of me stayed put, safe inside the jet.
There was something incredibly compelling about Loki. His vibe, is aura, it screamed with power and control. It felt almost, tempting.
One man stood, rebelling against Loki's orders. He was elderly, his hair grey and back hunched. Loki's manic smile faded, and he let his outstretched arms fall.
In one swift movement, Loki thrust the scepter at the man. I watched in fascination as Captain Rogers jumped in front of the elderly man, reflecting the blue energy beam from Loki's scepter onto the god himself. Loki fell to the ground, against the stone steps behind him.
"You know, the last time I was in Germany and saw a man standing above everybody else, we ended up disagreeing." I heard Rogers words through the earpiece tucked behind my ear. I watched Loki stand up.
"The soldier. A man out of time," Loki sneered. We were close enough now that the quin jets speakers picked up Loki's words.
"I'm not the one who's out of time," Rogers said, and as if on cue, Natasha pulled the quin jet around and zoomed behind Rogers in full view of Loki and the crowd. I stood right behind Natasha, leaning forward to get a better view. Natasha aimed the jets machine gun at Loki.
"Loki, drop the weapon and stand down," Natasha said through the speakers. Loki grinned nastily, and like lightning sent a blast of blue energy from his scepter straight at the jet. Natasha swore under her breath and maneuverd the jet out of the way just in time. Rogers threw the famous shield at Loki, hitting him, but not slowing him down.
As they fought, Loki flung Rogers to the ground. My muscles seized. I was in no way prepared to go and fight. I had relied on Rogers skill to take Loki down, but now I was beginning to doubt. Rogers threw the shield, but Loki swatted it away like a fly. Rogers, using all the moves of a boxer, tried to take Loki down without his unbreakable shield, but to no avail. Loki stood over him, his scepter pressing against his helmet.
"Kneel," Loki said menacingly.
"Not today!" Rogers said before flipping up and knocking Loki down with his leg. Loki grabbed ahold of him and flipped Rogers down on the ground.
"This guy is all over the place," Natasha gritted her teeth.
Suddenly, AC/DC's "Shoot to Thrill" began to play over the jets speakers.
"What the hell?" I exclaimed.
"Agent Romanoff, did you miss me?" A male voice said smugly over the music. Natasha smiled slightly, before moving the jet closer to the ground.
"Um, what?" I said confused. Natasha gestured to the sky on the left of the jet. Streaking across it, leaving small trails of smoke behind it, was a red and gold metal man, a blue light radiating from it's chest.
Tony Stark. Just the person I wanted to see.
The Ironman suit flew forward and blasted Loki to the ground, the scepter falling from his pale hand. Ironman landed on the ground and with a few clicks had his entire arsenal trained on Loki.
"Make your move, Reindeer Games," he threatened. Loki put his hands up in surrender. His gold and green armor faded away, revealing modern fashionable attire.
"Good move," Tony said, his voice coming through into my earpiece. Rogers looked at the Ironman, his face stoic.
"Mr Stark," he greeted.
"Captain," the Ironman suit nodded towards Rogers.
There was tension in the air, wether anyone wanted to admit it or not.
And I didn't like it.
