My eyes were glued to the small screen as Rogers, Banner, Thor Natasha and I watches Loki's interaction with Fury. No one spoke, but listened to the nasty words that Loki spouted from his lips.
"Ooh. It burns you to have come so close. To have the Tessaract, to have power, unlimited power. And for what? A warm light for all mankind to share, and then to be reminded what real power is," Loki said his words menacingly, malice on his lips.
Fury smiled and began walking away from the glass cell.
"Well, you let me know if Real Power wants a magazine or something," he said, exiting the video feed. No one spoke for a few stunned seconds.
"He really grows on you, doesn't he?" Banner said, his glasses sliding down his nose. Rogers folded his arms. I was fiddling with my lighter while I sat at the table next to Natasha.
"Loki's gonna drag this out. So, Thor, what's his play?" Rogers spoke to the great blonde god leaning against the table. He shook his head, almost out of a daze and face Rogers.
"He has an army called the Chitauri. They're not of Asgard or any world known. He means to lead them against your people. They will win him the earth. In return, I think, for the Tessaract."
"That's some heavy shit," I said in shock. My words earned me a look of disapproval from Rogers before he spoke to Thor.
"An army? From outer space?" He said seriously.
"I did not sign up for this," I mumbled.
"So he's building another portal. That's what he needs Erik Selvig for." Banner mused, still looking at the screen.
"Selvig?" Thor asked.
"He's an astrophysicist," Banner explained. Thor looked around.
"He's a friend," Thor added. That sparked a few curious glances from Rogers and I, who wondered what an Asgardian god had to do with a human astrophysicist.
"Loki has him under some kind of spell, along with one of ours," Natasha said, her voice trailing at the end of her sentence. I knew it was Agent Barton, Natasha's best friend that was under Loki's spell, and she wanted him back desperately.
"I wanna know why Loki let us take him. He's not leading an army from here," Rogers commented.
"I don't think we should be focusing on Loki. That's guys brain is a bag full of cats. You could smell the crazy on him," Banner said smartly.
"I agree with Doc over here," I said, raising my hand like a student.
"Have care how you speak. Loki is beyond reason, but he is of Asgard, and he is my brother," Thor defended his brother. I rolled my eyes.
"He's insane," I commented.
"He killed 80 people in 2 days," Natasha added, earning a sheepish look from Thor.
"He's adopted," Thor's last attempt at defense make me snort with laughter. Thor looked angrily at me.
"Sorry," I giggled, lowering my head. I was beginning to feel drained, like I had no energy left. I pulled out a cigarette from my pocket, which had miraculously managed to stay dry, and lit it with my lighter.
After taking a long drag, I felt an uncomfortable silence. I looked up, and felt all eyes on me.
"Oh, sorry am I allowed to smoke in here?" I asked innocently.
"Well it's too late now," Natasha said beside me.
"You know those things will kill you," Banner commented. I shook my head.
"Not me. My body aborbs toxins and turns them into energy, or something," I said causally, trying to sound relatively at ease with my unique ablities.
"So that's how you do the, the," Rogers wriggled his hand in the air.
"The hand thing? Yeah," I replied. Banner wasn't even listening.
"Iridium. What did they need the iridium for?" He wondered.
