I Knew You Lied
I saw
the red marks
on your arms,
your legs,
and even–on your beautiful face.
I grazed
my fingertips
across the scars
on every part
of your body,
wondering if
the scars in your heart
were even worse than that.
Your body
was trembling
as I held your hand in mine
and I felt my heart ache
for you
and every single broken piece of you.
I asked you
'Why?'
but you hesitated to tell.
You just smiled
and that was one of the
saddest smiles I have ever seen
in my life.
'It's just cat scratches,'
you said.
I knew you lied
because
you never mentioned
about having a single cat
in your entire life.
