lifeless

she wakes,
heaves a sigh,
knowing
another day
has come
to only end again.

her eyes
lifeless,
no longer twinkling
with excitement
nor
joy.

she has forgotten
how it feels
to feel
something
in her stomach,
either fluttering
in embarrassment
or churning
in anxiety.

she has lost
her sense
of taste;
the sweetness
no longer
put a smile
on her face.

she has begun
to float
in and out
of rooms,
shutting doors
behind her
as she goes
like a gust
a wind.

her hands
are frail
and her posture
worsens
each day
as she slumps
lower and lower
into herself.

her head
is merely
just a skull
holding her flesh
from ripping apart.

her ribcage
is only
just display
as it protects
something
that no longer beats.

her chest
rises
and
falls,
but yet
she is
not
breathing
at all.
