"sometimes it's the journey that teaches you a lot about your destination."

Annie's POV
I fluttered my eyes awake, to see Mr.Jimmy and mom still asleep. And Hayden wasn't there. I quickly got out of the car to look for him.

I walked around the area until I found Hayden sitting on a rock, looking in the distance. "Hayden?" I said in a hushed tone, standing behind him.

"Oh, hey Annie." He smiled looking up at me. I sat down next to him on the rock. "What are you doing out here?" He asked. "I could ask you the same thing." I responded with a cheeky grin.

"Just, clearing my thoughts." He responded. I nodded and we sat there for a bit more in silence. But that silence was soon interrupted by Mr.Jimmy. "Kids! Come on we're gonna go grab some breakfast!" He said. Hayden and I walked back to the car.

We drove to a small gas station. "Okay, go ahead and freshen up. We're staying at a hotel for the next 2 nights." Mr.Jimmy said.

My mom and I went first. I changed into knee ripped jeans, an off the shoulder top and braided my hair to the side. I brushed my teeth and walked out back to the car.

As I was going to the car trunck to put my duffle bag away, I felt eyes on me. I quickly glanced at Hayden and then back to my bag. I could feel my cheeks burning.

After we all changed, we went to go grab some pancakes. We were siting in a booth. I was next to my mom and across from Hayden.

"Okay kiddos, so the plan for today is for us to drive to Vegas!" My mom said. Hayden and I shouted in excitement. "We're going to stay there for 2 nights and 3 days." My mom concluded happily.

As I was finishing my breakfast, I felt Hayden's hand touch mine underneath the table. He slipped a paper into my hand. I brought it down to my lap. I opened it and it said, My number ***-***-****

I looked up at him and smiled. He smiled back. I pulled out my phone and added him as a new contact. I put a Purple Heart next to his name and smiled.

Mr.Jimmy and my mom split the bill and we walked out. I forgot to give Hayden his sweatshirt back. "Your sweatshirt is in my duffle bag. I'll get it for you." I said.

Before I could walk to get it, he grabbed my wrist. "No, it's fine. Keep it." He smiled. I was trying my hardest not to blush.

"But it's yours." I said. "Nah it's fine. I have tons more. Plus, it'll remind you of me." He winked. I giggled and walked back to the car.

We've being driving for a bit. It wasn't sunset yet, but it was 5:00 pm. "Are we there yet?" Hayden asked like an impatient 5 year old.

"1 more hour." Mr.Jimmy responded. "Wanna play 20 questions?" Hayden asked me. "Sure. You start." I smiled.

"Favorite color?" He asked. "Blue." I responded.
(Okay I'm going to write A for Annie and H for Hayden for the next couple questions so it's easier.)

"Favorite State?" -A
"Texas. Favorite Movie?" -H

"Um... probably everything everything. Best Friend?" -A
"Johnny. Taken?" -H

I froze when he asked that question. Mostly wondering why.

"No. What about you?" -A
"Yep." -H

Oh. I didn't know that. My heart broke a little. I don't know why. I'm not jealous am I?!
Hayden's POV
Ugh! Why would I say that?! I'm not dating anyone! I mentally face palm myself. We finish the game. "Alrighty kids we're here!" Mrs.Katie said. I smiled at the Vegas lights.

We all got out of the car. My dad and I got the bags out of the car. "I can carry my bag if it's too heavy." I heard Annie softly said. "It's okay. I'm super man!" I said running into the hotel with my fist out like an idiot. I could hear faint laughs behind me.

I look back and see everyone laughing. I laugh back, blushing a little
Annie's POV
While Mr.Jimmy and my mom are getting checked into the hotel, Hayden and I were just goofing off.

But I have to admit. I'm starting to like him. But I can't, he already has a girlfriend. So just friends will do I guess.

Mom and Mr.Jimmy were walking towards Hayden and I. "Okay, so, we got 2 hotel rooms. One has one bedroom and one bathroom. The other one has 2 beds and 1 bath. There both on floor 7." Mom explained.

"So we were thinking you kids can have the room with one bed. But don't worry, there's a pull out couch that Hayden will sleep on." Mr.Jimmy said eyeing him.

We all nodded and took ways. Hayden insisted to take my bags so I let him. I told him that I'll come up in bit.

After a couple minutes of thinking to myself, I took the elevator to floor 7. As I was walking, I bumped into a person which almost caused me to fall backwards. But I felt arms wrap around my waist catching my fall.

I open my eyes to see a boy my age with deep dark brown eyes and nice hair. He immediately pulled me up. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to bump into a pretty lady like you." He smiled. "It's fine." I smiled back.

"I'm Harvey by the way," he said holding out his hand. I shook it. "I'm Annie." "That's a beautiful name." He complimented. "Thank you!" I smiled.

"Well, there was a party tomorrow at the casino. You should come." He said. "Definitely! Bye Harvey." I smiled. "Bye Annie!" He said walking away.

I walked into Hayden and I's hotel room. I closed the door behind me and dramatically leaned my back against it. I saw Hayden in his pjs. "Um Annie, are you okay? You look like you can be a heart eye emoji." He laughed.

"I ran into a really cute guy and he invited me to a party to the casino tomorrow!" I squealed.
Hayden's POV
Cute guy? Party? Casino?! I feel a pang of jealousy hit me. I don't know why I'm getting jealous all of a sudden. "Oh, uh that's great Annie." I forced a fake smile.
Annie's POV
I smile back. "Be back." I said grabbing my bag and walking into the bathroom. I quickly get ready for bed. I walk out to my bed.

I look through the door and see Hayden on the pullout couch on his phone. "Hayden, you don't have to sleep on the pull out couch. I know how uncomfortable those are." I said leaning against the doorframe.

"No Annie, there's only one-" "I don't care." I cut him off smiling. "Your mom won't be mad?" He said looking at me. I shrugged my shoulders.

"It's not like there going to walk in our room." I said. "Are you sure?" He asked. "Positive."

He finally agreed. "You take the left side, I'll take the right side." I said crawling into bed. We both finally got in bed.

"You know what's funny?" I said turning my body to face his. "What?" He asked looking into my eyes. I just noticed how deeply magical his green eyes are. "I hated you and now we're sleeping in the same bed." I giggled and then blushed.

Good things the lights were off. "Yeah." He said putting his arm around my waist, bring me closer to him. "I kinda like it." He whispered.

I blushed even harder if that's possible. But then I suddenly remembered. "Hayden, don't you have a girlfriend?" I said. "Oh, uh, we broke up over the phone while you were in lobby." He said, trembling his words.

"Oh. I'm sorry." I said sympathetically. "Nah it's fine. I have my eyes on someone else." He said. I mentally sighed.

"Night Hayden." "Night Annie."
