3 • good side

we've been driving for about approximately 3 hours. nothing's happened so far. i just listened to mr.jimmy and my moms conversations.

"sorry about school." hayden randomly blurts. our parents didn't hear because they were too distracted in their own conversation.

"whatever." i sighed. "i really didn't mean it. my friend dared me." he shrugged. "well, you didn't have to. it was your choice." i said leaning my cheek against the window.

as i was looking at the open fields, lights appeared. not lights even, a festival. "ouuu let's pull up!" my mom squealed like a teenage girl.

we pulled up on the fair grounds. i so wasn't up for it. we got out of the car. "here kids, go have some fun!" mr.jimmy said handing hayden a 20 dollar bill. hayden thanks him and we walk away.

"tell me about yourself." hayden said breaking the awkward tension between us. i was still pretty upset, but why not. "what do you wanna know?" i ask as we stop at a bench and sit down.

"anything. hobbies, family, stuff like that." he said. "well, I was born in georgia, i have 2 siblings as you already know. um, i enjoy gymnastics and singing." i slightly smile.

"cool. well, i was born in texas, i have 3 older siblings and i like skateboarding, singing and video games." He said smiling back.

"ooooo! wanna go on that?" hayden said pointing to a roller coaster. "ummmm, i don't know..." i said shaking my head.

"come on, it'll be fun!" he said jumping like a 5 year old. we bickered back and fourth, debating on wether to go on the scary ride.

annie finally agreed to go on the ride with me which was great! as we walked to line, i could tell she was nervous. she was bitting her lip, crossing her arms and tapping her right foot.

"annie are you okay?" i ask a little concerned. "uh, yeah. just nervous." she quickly croaked. "we don't have to go-" "no no, it's fine." she gave me a reassuring smile.

we were finally at the ride. unfortunately for annie, we were sitting in the front row. as soon as the ride started, she closed her eyes.

after the ride, i was laughing and annie... well, she was scared. "are you okay?" i asked letting out a giggle.

"y-yeah. i'm not really a roller coaster person." she said looking at the ground. "yeah i could tell." i laughed. she playfully punched my arm and we continued on.

as we were walking by a game booth, i caught annie staring a a huge teddy bear. she at looked at it in awe.

"want me to get that for you?" i smiled asking her. "nah, you don't have to." she responded. "come on, i know you want it." i smirked. she giggled and we walked to the booth.

it was a ring toss game, i won, obviously. i gave annie the teddy bear. "thank you hay!" she said hugging the bear. i smiled at the fact she called me hay.

we both walked back to the parents who were enjoying some cotton candy. "hey kids! ready to hit the road?" my dad said. we nodded and got back in the car. mrs.katie was driving this time.

maybe it won't be so bad after all. i think i'm getting to annie's good side.
