Dinner and Uninvited Guest

Cleo's POV

I put the lasagna in the oven before going to check on Jimmy who is watching the second Garfield movie. That's what got him hooked onto lasagna in the first place. "Do you want orange juice tonight?" I ask him.

"Yes please" he says nodding his head. "What are we having tonight?" he asks.

"Your favourite" I say and squeals happily. "Now do you have any homework?" I ask him and he shakes his head. "Well then lets continue watching this movie until Aunt Lara arrives. By then the lasagna will be ready" I state pulling him onto my lap as he giggles. I love this, it's like he was never sick. But then I remember I only have six months to live when I notice the mark on my hand. I had placed the hour glass in my room earlier.

Just as the two Garfield's meet the doorbell rang and the bell goes off. "Can you let Aunt Lara in?" I ask Jimmy who nods his head. I go into the kitchen and take out the lasagna as I hear Jim greet Aunt Lara.

"Cleo, Aunt Lara brought cake!" Jim cheers as they enter the dining room. I smile at them over the breakfast bench.

"Why don't you put it in the fringe Aunt Lara" I suggest and she does so. Then gets out the orange juice and pours them into the three glasses. I had set the table earlier so the food just had to be served. As I start to serve however, there was a knock at the door.

"Were you expecting someone else?" Aunt Lara asks me.

"No, can you please serve while I answer the door?" I ask her and she nods her head. So I head into the foyer and open the front door to see Thantos. "Why are you here?" I ask him.

"My horse smelt your cooking and I just had to investigate it" he says smirking.

"Cleo, is everything alright? Who's this?" Aunt Lara asks appearing beside me.

"Everything's fine and this is..." I start to say looking at Thantos.

"I'm her boyfriend, sorry to drop by unannounced. I just heard her brother was in hospital and dropped everything to come here to make sure she is alright" Thantos says smiling.

"Why don't you join us for dinner" Aunt Lara suggests and I give her a pointed look.

"I'd be delighted" Thantos says smiling as she lets him in. I shut the door and take a deep calming breath. Before entering the dining room to see Aunt Lara already preparing a plate for Thantos. Before she sits beside Jimmy leaving the only free seat next to Thantos.

"So how did you two meet?" Aunt Lara asks.

"In a graveyard" I tell her.

"We were both visiting loved ones graves and ran into each other" Thantos lies.

"How were mum and dad today?" Jimmy asks.

"They are fine and overjoyed are your miraculous recovery" I tell him smiling.

"We'll all be reunited one day right?" he asks me.

"Yes, we'll all live forever in heaven together" I lie knowing I won't be there. Thantos then goes to drink his glass of water.

"You have to do the pray" Jimmy states pointing at him.

"He is right we pray every meal we have together and as you drank first. You have to do the pray today" Aunt Lara explains.

"Of course" Thantos says grabbing her and my hand, while Jimmy holds mine and my aunt's free hands. "God our Father, Lord and Savior, Thank you for, Bless this food and drink we pray, And all who shares with us today, amen" he prays.

"Amen" Aunt Lara, Jimmy and I say together before we all tuck in. I glance at Thantos occasionally and I notice how handsome he is. But I can't help put wonder why he wants my soul and what he'll do with it. Dinner finishes and Jimmy starts to watch Pokemon: the first movie while I wash up & put leftovers away.

Thantos stays leaning against the breakfast bench. "Why are you doing this?" I ask him.

"Doing what?" he asks smirking.

"Following me, I promised not to run and I gave you my word. Yet you seem to just pop out of nowhere. Now Aunt Lara thinks we're dating and we're not. I have a lot to do before the six months is over and you appearing uninvited. Does not help" I tell him.

"I want to get to know you more and I am sure you'll handle things just fine. Besides you are mine and soon I'll have your soul. But if you try to do anything, I'll take your soul straight away" he says playing with my hair. "I do not know you, so your promise and word mean nothing to me" he adds.

"But can't you tell when someone is lying?" I ask and he nods his head. So I look into his eyes and say "I give you my word not to run or try break our contract. I promise to go with you willing when my time is up. So am I lying?" I ask him.

"No you're not, must take my leave remember if you ever need me for any reason. Just place your hand on the mark and call my name" he reminds me. Then kisses my temple before disappearing. I go into the lounge and sit beside Aunt Lara on the couch.

"Did your boyfriend leave?" she asks.

"Yeah he got called into work" I lie smiling. "Who wants some cake?" I ask and Jimmy cheers. So we all have a slice of cake before finishing the movie. Jimmy then brushed his teeth and changed into his pj's. I song him a lullaby and he fell asleep.

"Be-careful around that new boyfriend, something was off about him" Aunt Lara tells me.

"Don't worry, I'll be fine" I assure her. "Aunt Lara you used to raise us while I completed senior year. I've been thinking of college, but I wouldn't be able to take Jimmy with me. Would you mind taking him in?" I ask her.

"Of course I will, you both are always welcome in my home" she assures me. We hug each other goodbye before I prepare for bed. Then fall into a peaceful sleep dreaming of when my parents were alive and everything was normal. Now I have six months to leave and I'll leave Jimmy with no biological family left. Why does life have to be so cruel?
