Death's Reason

Cleo's POV

"I want your soul because it is pure and you are beautiful. You also look like my dead fiance from five hundred years ago. But you are kinder, purer, loyal and more beautiful then she was. At first it was your looks, but not anymore. I have grown to care for you and intend to make you my wife" Thantos explains.

"Do you have a picture of this other girl?" I ask and he shows me one. We look exactly alike, but she looks more fierce and head strong. "What happened to her?" I ask.

"She was burned to the stake for being a witch" he says shrugging.

"How do I look like her? Wouldn't I have to be her descendant?" I ask.

"Yes, turns out she was having an affair with my brother. She became pregnant out of wedlock and the baby was put in an orphanage. Of course I did not know this at the time and only looked into it recently. As I made the deal with you" he states. "It a week after I returned she burnt to the stake" he adds.

"So you were a normal human once?" I ask confused.

"Yes and no" he states. "My mother was seduced by a demon and had me. Of course her husband and my human brother never knew the truth. It was the reason I was away for so long. My real father appeared and took me to the underworld to teach me how to be a demon. He told me I could have one human as mine and I wanted it to be her. But then she was burned to the stake before we could marry and I left the town forever" he explains. "I'm glad she's dead now" he adds.

"Why?" I ask confused.

"If she were alive I would of never of meet you and no doubt she'd still be cheating on me. But I know you'll me faithful only to me. It's not in you to break promises or vows" he states looking into my eyes.

"You're right there" I state taking a sip of my coffee. "You must leave, Aunt Lara will be here soon with Jim" I tell him.

"Of course and remember I'll always be there for you" he states before disappearing. As the front door opens and Aunt Lara enters carrying a sleeping Jim.

"I'll take him, thanks for watching him Aunt Lara" I say.

"Any time" she states and I place Jim in his room removing his shoes. "So when does your course start again?" she asks as I reenter the lounge.

"A little over five months, I want to open my own cafe and run it" I state.

"That's a good goal" she tells me smiling. "You didn't tell me what you and your boyfriend were fighting about" she states.

"He doesn't want me to go to another state to get my degree in business. He wants me to depend on him and his money. But I want to make money independently" I lie.

"You're father was the same when your mother wanted to continue working" she says chuckling. "So how long have you know each other exactly? Why haven't I meet him before?" she asks.

"About three months and you haven't meet him due to his work. I didn't mention him sooner because we're still new. I did not want to get yours or Jimmy's hopes up" I state.

"Well he seems nice, a little strange. But a gentleman" she says smiling gently. "Well I must be going" she states. "Come over for dinner this Saturday and invite that boyfriend of yours" she tells me before leaving. I head to my room and change into sleeping clothes. Putting my hair into a ponytail and sit on the bed looking at the hour glass.

"Looking at it won't change anything" Thantos says from behind us.

"I know, I am just going to miss them is all" I tell him. "Aunt Lara invited us to dinner Saturday, you are invited also" I state.

"I'll be there" he tells me. "Now sleep, you have work tomorrow" he adds making me lay down. He tucks me in and kiss my forehead. "Goodnight my beauty" he says before disappearing. I sigh snuggling into my pillow and fall asleep.
