after blake got home, she quickly ran up to her room locking the doors. she pulled the blinds down, shut the curtains and sat down on her bed. she liked the dark. she decided to make herself an artificial night. she rested her head against her soft plush pillow, soon watching her eyes closing slowly almost drifting asleep until avery comes knocking wildly on blake's bedroom door.
"blake!" avery's loud pounding on the door began to annoy blake by the minute.
she quickly got up, unlocking her door and stared at her younger sister very aggravated, her eyebrows knitted together in question as well. blake's hands moved to her hips, waiting for her impatient sister to tell her what she wanted.
avery grabbed her sister pulling her into her own bedroom, "can you watch a movie with me?" avery begs blake, giving her the puppy face. "remember when we use to do this all the time? i miss it." avery mutters underneath her breath, staring down at her feet. it was all her and blake ever did on friday nights, but they stopped this routine a while back. they don't exactly know why; they're relationship kind of had a closure. with their dad being gone, and the both of them not being able to be much of a family because their mum is always working, they're somewhat a broken family.
"avery.." blake mutters, glancing at her brunette younger sister.
"blake, you never want to do anything anymore!" avery whines, "please! i hate being alone."
it wasn't that blake didn't want to be around her sister; their relationship wasn't as near as before. everything has been different, and blake's grown to being a loner. she hated talking, she hated being around only certain people, she hated being the center of attention, she also hated people just staring at her. it could be one simple second and blake would cringe, she disliked mostly everything. it was just how she was now, she was completely different. her own mum thinks blake is overreacting, she's never seen her daughter pushing almost everybody out of her life, especially when no one has done anything to her.
"no." blake spits out, crossing her arms.
blake watches as avery's eyes erupt into tears.
"avery? did i say something?" not only does blake feel terribly confused, but she feels bad. her sister began to break into tears and she can't help but start to feel it's her fault.
her sister shakes her head, "it's not you, blake. it's everything in general, is there something wrong with me?" avery cries. hiccupping in between words.
still confused, blake takes avery into her arms hugging her tightly. "what's wrong?"
"everyone hates me, even the kids at school. they treat me like something you'd step on, on the street. i'm just tired of that feeling." avery wipes her eyes, pulling out of the hug, "i just wanted someone, mum hardly ever has time for me, dad is gone at the moment and who knows when he'll come back, then you, you push every single person away and i just miss you blake, i really do."
the pain her blake's chest hurts, she understands it all. she gets it, and she knows the feeling. there is never a day where they can all be together, smiling and having fun like a family. it's always the complete opposite, and things have been like this for awhile. blake has been through this before, it's exactly one of the reasons she has decided to go on without saying much and being around others. it affected the both of them, and here they are now explaining their feelings to one another.
every time avery completes a sentence with a short sob, blake would bring her sister closer to her hugging her tighter than before. the television in the room was on, but the both of them didn't bother to pay attention to it. they payed attention to each others company. blake rested her chin on avery's small head, caressing her cheek as tears fell from her sister's eyes onto her thumb.
"when'll everything go back to the way they were?" avery asks, wiping the tears off her soft face.
shrugging, blake sighs. "i guess when dad gets back?" her response comes out more of a question than a statement. there was really not an answer for that, none of them really knew. their father has been gone for a few months, he promised to send letters but never did.
blake watched as her sister's eyes began to close, and she can feel her own do so too.
☼
when blake woke up she was laying in her sister's bedroom alone, the curtains were pushed away so that the sun shined directly on her face. she literally jumped out of bed, talking toward the window and grumpily closing them to direct the sun elsewhere.
she debated on whether to go downstairs for some breakfast considering it was twelve in the afternoon. it took her a few minutes to decide that she wasn't as hungry and that she'd get dress to go to the park. the whether seemed to be terrific today, blake thought it'd be better than being locked up in a hot, stuffy bedroom. she walked out of the room she was in and into her own bedroom. soon picking out a plain white short sleeve shirt, along with a light blue of a dungaree that transformed into a dress, knee height. since it was warm temperature outside she wanted to dress for it.
soon enough she was dressed with a nice pair of shoes, and a book that she hasn't read yet in her hands. blake quickly hurried out of her house heading to the park that was about two blocks from her flat, it wasn't a long walk but it was somewhat refreshing finally walking out of the house. she begins to think of why she liked being locked up in her room, of was much better out of the house. as she thought about it, she now felt like she was punishing herself for doing that. there was no reason for her to be locked in her room all the time, her conversation with avery last night made her feel a little happier than before. blake actually felt she had someone to talk to more, and she liked the feeling of it very much.
blake arrived at the park, semi-running to a bench. her eyes scanned the whole area and nobody seemed to be around except for little kids on the swing set, they were laughing and smiling at one another.
it must feel great to have friends. blake thought to herself, smiling.
she stared down onto her hands noticing the book she wanted to read, she opened to the first page reading the first paragraph. throughout her reading session she kept thinking of other subjects which interrupted her a lot. blake tried to shrug it off and get back to reading but she just felt like she wanted to do something else, she wanted to watch other people. there wasn't a reason why she wanted to do so, but one thing she did find interesting was other peoples lives.
her thoughts were interrupted once again by someone sitting next to her. she turned her head to look at a familiar young man.
"hey." he smiled at her.
"are you following me?" blake looked at him closing her book. "everywhere i go, you're there."
niall looked taken aback for a second, "what-no, i'm not. we just seem to be at the same place at the same time." he said, shrugging his shoulders.
blake didn't believe what he was saying, every since they saw each other at the market they seemed to end up in the "same place at the same time". but she didn't say anything but nod, looking back to the swings where the kids use to be.
"how's everything?" niall nudges her playfully, but as he sees the scowl on her face he stops.
shrugging, blake glances at him. "why do you do that?" she responds to him with a question.
he stares at her confusingly at her, "huh?"
"you talk to me." she answers.
what she said wasn't suppose to come out like that, she just mean't to say that no one has put in an effort to talk to her like he does. she mean't to ask why he cared so much about her and was most likely to end up in the exact same place she was, that's what she mean't to say.
"i'll go if you want, didn't mean to bother you." he sighs, getting up from the place he was.
blake grabs his wrist, pulling him back onto the bench. "wait." she says, but it ends up sounding like she's begging him to stay now. "i'm sorry."
