The open air smelled like rain, But snow fluttered across the streets. Like a blanket, like a sheet. Layla sat on the peeling orange porch of an unfamiliar house. But it still felt like home. Layla gulped her hot chocolate and looked out into the winter snow.
She smiled and watched the air she breathed turned to steam around her.
"Layla." He called, leaning against the door frame, arms folded across his buff chest. Just the way he stood there, drived Layla crazy. Her imagination was running wild. Layla smiled back at Justin, patting the empty porch spot next to her. Justin grinned, sat down close to Layla and pulled her into his lap with a chuckle. He rested his head in the crook of her neck, Making Layla giggle, forcing her to set the mug down. She could feel soft kissed on her bare neck and closed her eyes.
"Stop it. Someone could see." Layla whispered. Layla's head reeled around, her eyes stealing glances of Justin's hazel eyes. They faced eachother in silence. Justin smiled, beggining to form words on his tongue.
"I. Love. You." He whispered in between heavy breaths. Layla smiled and pulled herself up to Justin's lips. She closed her eyes.
"Love you more." She smirked, pressing her lips against his. Jusin's hands searched for hers as the kiss became deeper. They both smiled, tangling eachothers fingers together. Layla giggled, and pulled away. She grinned and pulled Justin into a loving embrace, knocking them both to the snowy ground.
Justin chuckled and laid his hand against Layla's back. Layla opened her eyes, expecting to see Justin's. His hazel eyes that seemed to look right threw hers. Except, they weren't his. They were Derek's. It...Was Derek.
...
Layla hugged the pillow beside her, nearly ripping the fabric off the pillowcase. Her whole body felt like it was on fire. Layla sat up in her bed, resting against the headboard.
She sighed. Why Derek? After all, He snuck up on her like a forest fire. Layla's eyes wondered around the room. It seemed that everything in the room reminded her of him. Justin. Flashes of her memories clung to her brain. The airport, the one night they spent together, even the sneak-kiss when they first met. She ran a hand through her brown locks.
"Damn." She snarled, pulling her knees to her aching chest. She looked to the ground, spotting D.O.G. laying down, quietly on his bed. Layla bent down, rubbing the surface of D.O.G's fur. He looked at Layla with concerned eyes. Layla smiled at him.
"Really... I'm ok." She lied, ignoring the fact that she was talking to her dog. The dog shook his head, as if trying to shake something off. He sat up and put his paw up on the snow white mattress. Layla patted his head.
Layla only had one more day. One more day until her love would return. One more day until she'd felt like herself again. Whole. Ready for anything. As long as Justin was standing right next to her. Holding her hand. Layla sighed, releasing a huge puff of air into the atmosphere. She slammed her head against Justin's pillow and checked her clock. 6:03. Lucky for her, her blinds kept the early morning sun from seeping into her room. Layla turned away from the window.
...
"Go back to bed Layla. C'mon!" She muttered under her breath after about an hour of trying to go back to sleep. She pushed away the thoughts of him. They lingered in her mind. The way he always did. Layla shook her head and clamped her eyes shut. She laid in silence where the only thing she heard was her heartbeat.
