Mom woke me up that day at the crack on dawn. I needed to watch May. Mom was going shopping and I was stuck with May for four hours.
"I whip my hair back and forth!" She screamed, flailing her head around. Though, Her hair was almost too short to whip. She had already been doing that same thing, all morning. I sat down on the couch, sighing. My phone started buzzing, zapping me out of my funk.
Txt: I'm coming over to help you with May. B there soon. - Justin
I shut my phone. I didn't even need help. May was already twelve years old. I didn't even have to be there. May just hated being alone.
I glanced back at May who was enjoying her huge bowl of Captain Crunch while playing her Nintendo DS all at the same time. . . and screaming.
"Stupid toad!" She yelled. I laid down on the couch, barely keeping my eyes open. I had stayed up until 2:30 AM with Justin.
I settled into the cushions, grabbing the fleece blanket of the back of the couch. Then, I heard May shut her door. Finally. Quiet freedom. I turned over on my side, drifting off to sleep. A yawn escaped my lips as I fell asleep.
...
The room was dark when I woke. Justin's gentle arms cradled me softly. I could sense him glancing at me with his deep hazel eyes. He said nothing. His hand stroked my head gently. He smiled. I opened up my mouth to speak but Justin pressed a finger to my lips.
I closed my eyes again, Justin still running his hand through my hair. He leaned down so I could barely feel his breath on my face.
"Go to sleep." He softly whispered. I reached up into the air, trying to find Justin's face in the darkness. From side to side, my hands searched until I caught strands of his hair in between my fingers. I pulled myself up, still holding on to him. I couldn't see a thing but I could feel.
"What are you looking for?" He asked, whispering. I pulled myself even closer to him in the pitch black darkness. Until, I touched his lips with the tips of my fingers.
"You." I smiled, pressing my lips softly against his. His fingers dug deeper into my hair, grasping each long and thick strand. He began pulling lightly, setting my cheeks on fire. His hands suddenly dropped to my waist as his mouth curved upward into a devilish smirk. I turned a bit, setting my head against the wall with a loud thud. Yet, he still clung to me. Just like a moth to a flame.
His arms felt like walls around me. I set my hand on the side of his face so I could keep my balence. The same rush feeling, shot like a bullet through my body. We weren't just kissing anymore. He lossened his grip on my waist, pulling away. I could feel him shake but only for a moment. Justin smiled.
"You must be tired." He said, getting up from the couch, leaving my side. I quietlly yawned, rubbing my eyes.
"Sleep, Layla." He squeezed my hand as my eyes closed once again.
...
Justin woke me up, calling my name. An hour had past. I sat up, taking in a breath of air. He wasn't on the couch.
"Dinner is ready.' he called from the kitchen.
"I cooked." he casually added.
"Ok..." I said, yawning. My eyes shot open.
"Wait, what!?"
...
He chuckled at how surprised I was as mom began to pull up into the driveway. She trotted up the porch.
"Hey sweety. Sorry I took so long. I caught up with some friends and-" She stared at Justin who was setting plates up on the table.
"Hi Mrs. Blake." He said, smiling. Mom blushed and wiped the hair from her face.
"I-I cannot believe this. Wow, Justin. Thank you." She grinned, patting Justin's back.
"Your welcome. Grilled cheese is kinda my thing." He confessed. May skipped out of her room, sniffing the air. She followed the scent to the table.
"I can smell grilled cheese from a mile away." She giggled, chomping furiously at her sandwich.
"Hope you like it." Justin smiled in May's direction. Mom threw her purse to the ground and dropped with a thud, into her chair.
"Thank you, Sweety!" She yelled, taking a big, cheesy bite of her sandwich. Justin smiled wider and grabbed two plates with sandwiches and gestured to my room, glancing at me. I smiled and started down the hall.
"Layla!" Mom whispered, I turned to her."
"I-love-him!" She mouthed. I laughed and walked into my room, closing the door behind me.
...
A few seconds later we sat at my desk. We picked away at our dinner, laughed our heads off, shared stories, and smiled the whole time at eachother.
"No. Seriously! G-O-T-C-H-A was spelled out with the food. All of it! Sean was pissed!"Justin laughed. I laughed even harder. Justin smiled at me now, watching me laugh my head off.
"I love you."He grinned, childishly. My giggles dissapeared and I returned his soft gaze. A wide smile spread across my mouth.
"I love you to." I said, wiping the hair from my his face. A bit of heat rised in his cheeks. He took my hand, brung it down and then set it on his. His hand squeezed mine and I leaned in towards his cheek. At the last split second,Justin turned and kissed my lips. I could feel a blush coming on as I tried to breathe. I kissed a bit harder and pulled back. Justin pulled me into a tight, gentle and caring hug. My body molded to his and I closed my eyes. His gentle lips kissed my forehead and once again, I caught myself smiling.
...
Just like deja v'u, Justin led me out of the neighborhood. Past my neighbors, their neighbors and their neighbors. We walked through the streets, holding eachothers hands and smiling.
"I hope it doesn't rain on us again." I exclaimed and glanced at Justin. Then, something else caught my eye. Something rustled in the bushes next to me.
"Oh no." Justin muttered as a man with a huge camera jumped from the bushes.
"Say cheese!" He yelled, furiously clicking and snapping his camera. Justin pulled me away and we began to run.
"Shit!" Justin yelled, looking behind him.
"C'mon. Give me a smile!" The guy pressured. I kept running, tears welling up in my eyes.
...
Soon, We reached my house. Justin slammed the door behind us and we tried to catch our breath.
"Dammit! Layla I... I am so sorry." He said, trying to comfort me. I plopped on the couch with my head in my hands.
"Ugh!" I screamed. He stood, looking me down.
"Layla. Don't worry." he said, taking my hand. I looked up, but I had no words. He smiled. I could tell he was trying his best to mask the pain.
"I've dealt with the press before..." He took me into to a tight hug.
"And I'll do it again." He held me carefully. He took a deep breath.
"We just have to be careful."
