"Jesus Chirst, Iyden, you're a mess!"
I moved gingerly closer to him, uncomfortable at the sight of so much blood from one arm. His fingers were covered in crimson, and his bed sheets were starting to look as though they were bleeding.
"Hay-Haydrian..." he stuttered. "I..I w-want to passss oout-"
I ran to him, holding him close to my body and stroking his face. He was cold, and started had to sob now. My heart wrenched and I tried to pick him up so I could cary him down the stairs. In this state, he wouldnt be able to walk. He'd gone limp on me- I knew that meant he wouldnt co-operate.
"Buddy, listen to me, how deep a-are they-?"
"Only a centimetre..." he said almost lazily, looking up at me through his hair. "Paaain..."
"I know, silly." I hushed, lifting him into my arms and kicking the door open, trudging down the stairs one step at a time, my legs tired and aching once i had reached the bottom.
I put Iyden down on the sofa, and picked up a towel from the cupboard, running to him as fast as I could back to the dark lounge. Shadows crept in from the window as I was wiping the blood away. He clenched his teeth together in pain and tried to slap my arms away viciously.
I hit him forcefully on the shoulder, my temper getting the best of me.
"Sorry." I hissed, wiping away more blood. It just kept coming...I'd have to call an ambulance... "I'm just going to go get the phone, buddy, okay? Keep calm, you're okay."
"He's going to get me, isn't he?"
I stopped in my tracks, fear flooding my body just for a moment. I breathed.
"He's in prison- he can't hurt you anymore." I swallowed firmly, not wanting to turn and look at my brother. I wanted so desperately to soothe him, but I knew I couldn't. I walked out of the room and into the kitchen, taking deep lungfuls of air before dialling nine nine nine.
"You have reached the emergency services. Which would you require?"
"Ambulance, please."
"I'll put you through." said the calm voice, making me more and more irritated. I got through to the medics about half a minute later.
"Hello, what is the problem?"
"My brother has cut himself badly, I need help, I'm Haydrian. We're at twenty one, Coursley Road," I sighed and added the town name, trying to keep level headed.
"We'll be with you as soon as we can. Hold on, Haydrian." and she hung up.
