"Aiden Jackson," Liana said with a giggle.

It was an hour after lunch, and Liana and Jacy were still going on about how Liana had totally rocked the new kid. I didn't contribute anything to the conversation, I just opened my locker and flirted with the football players walking by.

"Peyton!"

I glanced up, startled by Liana's outburst. That must've been the third or fourth time she had called my name, but this was the first of me hearing it.

"What?" I said, my voice trembling.

Jacy raised an eyebrow, "You seem a bit shaken up. Everything alright?"

I smirked, realizing that I really needed to watch my emotions. Peyton Lemming wasn't one to be emotional, I was supposed to be a strong, confident girl with power.

I was supposed to be perfect.

I shook the thought away, nodding at my friends as we entered history class. I sat down at my usual place, Liana to the left of me, Jacy to the left of Liana. That way a jock could sit next to me, as Liana had planned out all on her own. One of her smart moments, and I took the offer, considering she didn't have many of those.

I glanced at the classroom door just to find the new kid slump in, his binder tucked under his arm, his gaze down on the floor. I cursed under my breath, remembering that our football team of Vincent Massey High in our small town of Brandon, Manitoba, had an away game a few miles away at Virden High.

Considering almost half of the grade elevens were football players, on days that the Vincent Massey Vipers had to leave early the classes were merged. So basically, each and every desk was filled. There was the free one beside me, and that was all. I watched carefully as Aiden Jackson, or AJ, as I had called him glanced around for a desk.

I averted my gaze as he slipped into the desk beside me. Liana stiffled a giggle, turning towards him, "Sucks being new, eh? Especially when you're not a jock."

Jacy and Liana broke into laughter, and I giggled slightly not to lose my place. I stared straight into his eyes, finding it almost impossible to pull away. He broke the trance, and I found myself gasping for breath. Before I knew it, still trapped in some sort of void, the bell had rung to end class.

Jacy and Liana jumped out of their seats and raced towards the door. I stood up slowly, glancing down at Aiden who was still gathering his books. I swallowed, putting on my best smirk as I slammed my palm on his desk. He instantly looked up at me, but I resisted looking in his eyes.

I cleared my throat, "At Vincent Massey, everyone has a place. Find yours, or you'll find yourself at the bottom of the totem pole," I said as I tilted my head slightly to the side. I narrowed my eyes, "You don't say much, Aiden Jackson," I said softly. I bit my lip, reaching into my bag and pulling out a pink envelope. I licked my lips, "Here," I placed it on his desk, watching as he carefully took it in his hand. I smirked, leaning down so my mouth was at his ear. In a whisper, I said, "From the most popular girl in the school to the new kid, first impressions are the most important thing." I could hear him swallow as I stood up and began walking towards the door in my five inch heels. I turned around in the doorway, sticking out my hip. I smiled, "Remember that, AJ."

With that I walked down the hallway, proud of myself for sticking my ground. I no longer felt guilty, however. Thankgod, considering how I hated that nagging feeling in my gut and my heart. I brushed past Liana and Jacy, gesturing for them to follow me. We all slid into my bright red mercedes, zooming off down the road towards my large house.

Liana began snickering beside me, "The new kid seems like he'll be fun to mess with."

Jacy, in the back seat began giggling, "Peyton, did you invite him to your party?"

I nodded, my grip tightening around the steering wheel, "I think it's fair to give him a chance."

Liana scoffed, "As if. He isn't even a jock! He doesn't even have the confidence you need to be a waterboy!"

I licked my lips, "He seemed somewhat muscular to me."

"Ooooh," Jacy teased, "Standing up for the new kid? Does someone have a crush on Aiden Jackson?"

I slammed my fist on the steering wheel, then gathered my composure, "Jacy, don't be ridiculous. All I'm saying is that he isn't a complete nerd, and shouldn't be treated as our lower class."

"What class should he be in then?" Liana asked, her neatly plucked eyebrow raised.

I shrugged, the corner of my mouth lifting up into a smirk, "Aiden Jackson can have his own class. One where they are not our playtoys, but also not our jocks."

The girls were quiet for a moment, then both nodded. I sighed, "Listen, I'm letting you guys off at the corner. I have a few things to do before the party. It is tomorrow, you know," I said, stopping the car and unlocking the doors.

Liana waved and slid out as Jacy said her usual 'see ya' and jumped out of the backseat. I cleared my throat, stepping on the gas until I pulled up at my house. I walked up my front porch, the autumn air warming my cheeks. I stuck my hands into my pockets and stepped into my home. I took in a breath, always amazed by the house I lived in. Three floors, a pool in the backyard, four flat screen tv's and five king size bedrooms. Lucky for me, being the oldest, I had the entire basement to myself.

"There's my girl," my mom smiled as she hugged me quickly.

I grimaced, pulling away with a quick grin. Suddenly my siblings raced down the stairs and leaped at me. I fell backwards onto the couch, wrestling around with my brother and sister.

"Peyton's home!" my ten year old brother, Preston said with his arms raised as he gave me a quick wink.

I picked him up and threw him against the couch playfully as my four year old sister began tickling my feet. I let out a laugh and scooped her up, tossing her right beside Preston.

"Mom!" I shouted, "You gotta stop buying Pamela those Elmo books!"

My mother laughed, shooing my siblings away. You may find it weird, that being a sixteen year old girl I had two siblings at the ages of seven and four. I was practically three times their age, yet we were one big happy family. Your next question, then, would be why I acted such a way when I had such an adoring family? Simple. I have already said.

I was supposed to be perfect.

Perfect, in my eyes, and my father's eyes, was to be a confident, strong, witty and powerful woman that bowed down to no one.

That was exactly who I was, exactly who my father had always taught me to be before he died. That was the worst day of my life, when I was eleven years old. Ever since that day I had strived to be a perfect woman. But on the other hand, if my mother ever knew about my poweful ways of using my popularity, she would be utterly disappointed.

I thought she had already guessed, considering Liana and Jacy, who followed me around like lost puppies, and the dozens of guys I brought home. My grades were slipping, and I knew that did not impress my mother at all. I still got B's, even a few A's, but compared to my straight A+'s only a couple of years ago, that did not sit well with my mom.

I cleared my throat, "Mom, I'm going to take a nap. You know, just think about things."

She nodded as I raced down the stairs to my room, slamming the door shut behind me. I flopped down onto my bed, clutching my blonde hair to my skull. After a whole day of teasing nerds, fliritng with guys, dumping Drew and handing out invitations, only one thing was on my mind.

Aiden Jackson.
