"Peyton. Peyton. Peyton, get your ass up."
I opened one eye just enough to glance over my surroundings. I noticed that there was no longer darkness, but that the sun poured in through Aiden's window. I moaned, snatching the blanket in my fingers and turning over.
"No," I mumbled.
I heard Aiden sigh above me, and suddenly his hand was on my back, "Peyton, your sister called ten minutes ago saying she would be here in half an hour."
"So I have twenty minutes," I argued, my face smooshed against the pillow.
"I can barely hear you," Aiden complained as he slammed another pillow down on the back of my head.
I took a hand to smooth out my blonde mess of hair, then snuggled my face further into the mattress. "Good, then leave me alone," I muttered.
"Peyton, for the love of--" he stopped suddenly, and the silence made me feel uncomfortable.
I turned my head sideways to see what he was doing to find him not on that side. I was in the midst of turning my head the other way when fingers jabbed against my sides. I let out a squeal, jumping up and pulling the blanket up to protect me.
"Aiden!" I said softly as I tried to breathe against his pokes. I fumbled to get away, only for him to pin my body against the mattress and sit on my torso. His legs went on either side of me, making myself unable to move from my position of lying on my back. I tried to swat his hands away and shove him off of my stomach as he poked and jabbed at my sides.
I held my breath as best I could, trying my best not to spit out laughter. That didn't work as planned. I cried out in laughs and giggles as I fought to breathe. He reached his one hand back and squeezed my thigh repeatedly. I let out a shriek, my eyes watering from the non stop laughs escaping my throat.
"Please stop," I pleaded as he tickled my ribs.
In an instant his hands were on my arms, and he leaned over me as he was still sitting on my stomach. Aiden smirked, "You're too easy," he whispered as he captured my lips in his.
I held the kiss for a moment, waiting for him to pull away before I spoke, "And you're an asshole."
He let out a chuckle as he got off of me, "Come on. Get dressed. Your sister will be here in twenty minutes."
"It takes me five to get ready," I said simply, waiting for him to turn around. He stared at me, and I patted the bed beside me.
He rolled his eyes as he made his way over to me. "You're a coniving little girl," he whispered as he leaned over me.
I smirked, "Not little."
I placed my arms around him as he pushed his lips into mine. I let him push me down onto the bed, and for the next ten minutes I knew I was his. The next ten minutes before I had to start preparing to meet with my mom.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Good luck," Aiden whispered as he held my body against his in a hug.
I sighed, turning around to face his front door. Pria placed her hand on my shoulder and gave it a squeeze. "It'll be okay," she whispered.
I stared up at my sister. Her face seemed pale, and her light brown hair was straightened perfectly but I could see the strain she used to make it so. Her blue eyes seemed drained, even as they sparkled with their natural Lemming glint. She was twenty five now. It had been ten years since my mother had layed eyes on her. Would she even recognize her? Of course, she was her daughter. My mom would have to remember Pria. I bit my lip, would she remember me? Did she even want to?
I felt a pang of guilt as I thought about it. The last five years all I had given my mother was stress and made her feel guilty. I had practically pinned my father's death on her shoulders. The last seven months were probably her breather. I sighed, smoothing back my blonde curls. "We're going to need it, AJ," I whispered as he pulled open the door.
"Take your time," he whispered.
I nodded as I stepped through the front door. I glanced across the lawn, imagining what my family would be doing inside the large house. Pria linked her hand in mine, nodding before she lead me down the driveway. Butterflies bounded off the sides of my stomache, making me feel like I needed to throw up. Before I knew it I found myself reaching for the doorbell of my old house. I looked up at Pria, "You ready?"
She gave me her best smile, the fake smile that our family had grown to be the masters of. "If you are," she whispered.
Pria pushed my hand forwards so it hit the doorbell, and we heard a ringing sound echo inside the home. There was silence for a moment, then we heard footsteps. My throat constricted as the door handle turned, and suddenly I found myself staring into the face of my eleven year old brother.
Preston stared at me, his eyes confused for a second before they widened with excitement. "Peyton!" he shrieked before running into my arms. I stumbled backwards, but didn't stop from holding my little brother.
"What the hell is going--" my mother's voice stopped as her eyes caught mine. "Peyton," she whispered, hesitantly stepping towards me. She wrapped her arms around my body, and I could feel her shaking. All of a sudden I felt something small ram into the side of my leg. I looked down to find Pamela staring up at me with bright blue eyes. I laughed and scooped her up in my arms.
"Ahem."
My family turned around, all of us staring at Pria in the doorway. I swallowed, wondering how this was going to play out. My mother took a step forwards, her eyes fixed on Pria's face. She reached out, almost as if she was checking to make sure she was really there. "Pria?" she whispered.
My sister smiled, tears streaming down her cheeks as she gave a harsh nod. My mother let out an almost inhuman cry as she lunged at Pria. They stood together for a moment, both sobbing in eachother's arms.
Pamela shifted in my arms, "Who's that?"
I placed her down and grabbed Preston's arm to yank him forwards. I bent down to Pamela's level, gesturing for Preston to join me. "That's your sister," I whispered.
Preston stared at me in bewilderment, but Pamela just raced at Pria. Pria scooped her up and grinned from ear to ear. "I've heard lots about you," she said with a slight laugh.
Preston stuck his hands in his pockets, slumping forwards towards our sister. Pria plopped Pamela back down and looked Preston over. "God you look different," she whispered. "You were what when I last saw you? One?"
Preston shrugged, obviously having no memory whatsoever of this woman. He just shook his head, opening his arms for Pria to grab him. I smiled, and within a second the five of us all had our arms wrapped around one another.
"There's alot to explain here," my mother suddenly whispered.
Pria and I laughed, squeezing our family even harder in response to her question. There was alot to explain, probably too much to even say. We'd probably be here for hours, telling our mother our explanations, and getting Pria caught up on Preston and Pamela's lives. This would be one long conversation.
And I was ready to listen to every word.
