ELI

It was early Tuesday morning and I opened up shop today early because I was spending the day with Missy and this was our first stop.

"I bet you would look so good with long hair," Lauren said as she worked on my hair. It was about time I got it cut and touched up.

I didn't intentionally set out for short hair but back when I was 17 I went to a bad stylist and she ended up ruining my hair. I had no choice but to cut it and rocked hats for months until I became bold enough to rock my short hair. I grew to love my short hair and I've been wearing it short ever since.

"I told her the same thing," Missy agreed with Lauren, "You should add some color to it at least. Spice things up."

Missy and Tiffany loved to take risks with their hair. Blonde, black, blue, red, pink, purple. I was simple, I liked what I liked and wasn't a big fan of change. Less than an hour later my hair was all done. Lauren never let me pay her but I took out a hundred dollar bill and stuffed it in her tip jar by her station.

Some of my employees were talking about the man in their lives and all the bad luck they had with men in the past. Listening to them talk only made me want to steer clear of men all together. That was until Tiffany and Missy started talking about Trell and Matt. I noticed how their faces lit up and how they got all starry eyed. I wondered if I looked like that when I talked about my ex, Key. On second thought I highly doubted it.

"Can we change the subject," I interjected, "Ya'll are way to mushy for me."

"Love will do that to you and I think it will look good on you to if you stopped being so mean and got out there," Missy smiled patting my shoulder as she flushed up her curly blonde hair. Tiffany just gone done working on it and she looked amazing but that was nothing new.

"I don't have time to be worried about a nigga. I want to build myself an empire and stack money and most of these nigga's act more like bitches than bitches."

"I agree. But there's a big difference between a man and a nigga. You need to find yourself a man. Don't group all men into one box. They're still some good ones out here."

"You just have to find the one, your one," Tiffany cheesed, I knew she was thinking about Matt.

"And I can't wait for the day," Missy giggled browsing the nail polish racks before choosing one, "He's going to have his work cut out for him I tell you that."

"What color you getting Eli," Tiffany said as a joke, knowing damn well when I got my manicures I only opted for clear polish.

"Do you even have to ask," Bri rolled her eyes.

"I like things the way I like them," I shrugged taking a seat.

"And that's your problem sweetheart. It never hurts to try something new and step out of the box," Missy said sitting next to me, "How are you going to know what you like if you never go out and try new things."

"Preach," Lauren pumped her hand in the air and I rolled my eyes at her dramatic ass.

"I know what I like and I know what's for me."

Females came in here spending money on hair, makeup and nails and most of the time it was to impress a man or to snag one. I wasn't about to change myself for anyone, never again.

"You know sometimes it's hard for me to believe your not playing for the other team," Tiffany chuckled with her hand on her hip.

"But she was at one point remember," Bri smiled, "Speaking of what ever happened to little red riding hood? She finally decided to leave you alone?"
