Chapter Twelve - Bigger Battles Than His Scars

  Later the next day Zeref and I planned to go speak with Master. I wanted to see whether or not Zeref would be able to go to the Fairy ball that we'd be hosting. Now that Lisanna is better I'm sure it'll be within the next few days, if not sooner.

  "Lucy?" Zeref spoke to me as he saw that I was spacing out once again. I looked at him, causing me to lose my footing on the brick wall I was currently walking on.

"Huh?" I asked as I regained my balance.

Zeref smiled making me feel some type of way. His eyes never left mine even as I broke away from our gaze upon one another.

"I won't be able to accompany you."

"To Fairy Tail?" I asked as his words had taken me aback. How did he know what I was thinking? Or did I speak my mind?

  "Yes. I'm afraid I have another pending matter I must attend to." Zeref spoke with a distinct emotion in his eyes, almost as if he didn't want to leave my side.

   "That's alright." I smiled at him as I took his hand before intertwining it with mine. "I hope you won't miss me too much. You'll see me again before you know it."

   Zeref pulled my hand and gently laid a kiss on it. I couldn't help but blush as his gesture caught me by surprise.

  "I'll be there in time to pick you up once I've finished attending my other matters." Zeref told me and I smiled.

  I waved him goodbye after he was a great distance away from the guild. I hope all goes well for the two of us.

  Without any more hesitation I entered the guild. My eyes were soon met with the familiar sight of everyone.

  Wendy and Romeo were playing with new potions. Levy was reading a book while Gajeel was having a conversation with Gray and Juvia. Laxus sat at the bar admiring Mirajane as she served others a few drinks.

  Just as if my presence was made known, everyone turned their attention towards me.

  "Lucy!" Levy cried out as she ditched her book and tackled me into a hug. "It's been awhile since we saw each other."

   "I missed you too. But I'm afraid I have a bit to discuss regarding my prolonged absences." I then leaned closer to her and whisper. "Zeref is going to take me to the fairy ball."

  I pulled away catching a surprised Levy wearing a smile. My eyes caught sight of Mirajane winking at me, our sign that we would talk later.

  "Laxus, is master in his office?" I asked, grabbing everyone's attention even more.

  "Yes. He should be last time I checked." He responded with a smile and I began walking towards the office.

  After making my way to the top and knocking, I entered as I was given permission to do so.

  "Lucy, my dear, how may I assist you?" Master called out to me.

  I smiled at him, but it quickly faded once I saw who was inside his office.

Natsu.

Lisanna.

Why did they have to be here at the same time as I did? Is fate playing a cruel trick on me once again?

"I'm doing great Master." I said as I kept my distance, not bothering to sit down next to them. "How are you feeling Lisanna?"

  I wonder how her body was adapting after the pills Zeref gave her.

  "Better than before!" She cheerfully said with a smile. "And it's all thanks to those pills you gave me. I call them my miracle pills."

  Master's eyes shifted in curiousity from Lisanna to me as she mentioned my doing to help her well-being.
