Silence.
Complete silence is what I heard when I first began opening my eyes. I expected to see a room filled with concerned faces but instead, I was met with only one.
His dark amber eyes were beating down my brown ones. Using sorrow as its weapon along with chains of worry and disappointment.
"Third," Zeref spoke with a smirk and I was confused.
Third what?
"That was the third time I saved you." And soon I remembered our little bet. "Which means you owe me something, don't you Lucy."
And I did.
"I do." I answered with a soft voice, shifting my gaze over towards the window that was opposite of where he stood.
I still couldn't wrap my head around everything that's happened. Why did Zeref posses the devils ring? One of the most feared and sacred items. And how did I not realize it sooner that Zeref was the dangerous wizard everyone disliked and would warn everyone else about?
I mean what's so bad about Zeref? He did just save my life. Well, besides the dark magic that surround him while doing so, but that's so dangerous? Or is it?
"Lucy." Zeref's voice released me from the trance I was in. "When you placed that ring on your left hand, did you not possibly think of the consequences that could result from doing so?"
The room was silent after he spoke those words. Had I not thought about the potential consequences while placing this ring on the sacred left hand where my mark of marriage was supposed to be on?
"No." I whispered back to Zeref as my eyes flickered towards him, searching for something. "But whatever the consequence is I'll be able to take it."
Zeref raised one of his eyebrows at me as I tried to sit up from my bed. He had brought me back to my apartment. But how did we get inside? Oh, that's right. I told him he could stay at my place if he needed to. I can't believe I forgot that I told him where the spare keys were.
"I don't think you'll be able to Lucy." His voice was as cold as ever. But for some reason it still set off the butterflies in my stomach.
"Then tell me Zeref. Why won't I be able to handle it." I daringly asked and Zeref soon appeared in front of me.
"Because it means you'll have to be mine."
Zeref's eyes soon became red and I could sense just how much power he held within. And it didn't scare me. Instead I felt like protecting him from the darkness within him.
I got closer to him as my eyes were still wide from the words he'd spoken. He didn't move as I sat facing him.
"And what's so bad about that?" My words had left my mouth without my brain being able to process the full extent of what was meant by them.
Zeref shook his head with a smirk. And my eyes got lost in his as it was the first time I think I ever saw someone smile with such a genuine expression.
"I mean it's only fair there's a price to pay, you did save my life after all Zeref." I casually spoke.
"Did you forget as to why you acted so irrationally?" Zeref asked me and when I didn't respond to him with my words but rather lower in my gaze to the ground he continued. "For the man you held one-sided feelings for."
