Chapter Fifteen - Haunted

Zeref came into view as he was a few feet away from Natsu, a few feet farther than where I stood.

His red eyes were emotionless. They matched his expression and I didn't like it one bit.

"Zeref." I said his name in a soft voice.

I had never seen him so cold before. It's like he is a completely different person.

I mean even when he rescued me from the rude wizard he had more emotion than when he did right now.

Maybe Natsu was right.

No. He couldn't be.

Zeref and Mavis were in love and it was his curse that killed her. 

Not him. 

He would never do that to anyone intentionally unless they were harming everyone else.

"You're wrong Natsu." I shouted out as I defended the dark wizard before me. "Zeref would never kill Mavis. It was his curse. Not him."

Natsu laughed.

"Why are you defending the murder, Luce. Clearly he has kept in the dark for far too long. If you didn't know how the founder of Fairy Tail died." He scoffed at me. "Even I know how Mavis died."

I shook my head at Natsu.

 There was no way Zeref was the sole cause of the death of Mavis. I wouldn't believe it. Not after he has protected and cared so much for me.

Zeref even told me once before that she died because of his curse. But she wanted to kiss him knowing the consequences it posed and decided to go through with it regardless.
Zeref never forced her nor would he purposely kill the one he loved.

It's just not him.

In the silence that surrounded us, I could feel the tingly feeling start to spread across my body. The white outlines were reappearing and I knew it meant that there would be a huge possibility that Natsu wouldn't go home without having a few scratches.

Within a few seconds I texted Mirajane to let the rest of the girls know to be on standby. I didn't need them to protect me.

No.

I needed them to take Natsu home after I am done with him.

I decided to close the gap between Natsu and I. Leaving less than three steps between us.

"Natsu why are you doing this?" I cried out as his brown eyes locked with mine. "Haven't you hurt me enough. Just please leave."

I could feel Zeref's eyes on me.

He was worried.

And very angry.

"It's not about your happiness Luce. It's about keeping you and the rest of us safe from that monster. If he killed Mavis just imagine what he'll do to you, to us."

I heard a loud noise before I could register my own actions. My right hand had made contact with Natsu's left cheek, leaving a large red mark in the process.

"The only monster here is you, Natsu." My words were cold but they needed to be said.

Natsu rolled his eyes at me, an expression I wasn't expecting. But what came after completely took me by surprise.

"Fine. But just know that I tried to warn you." Natsu stated as he walked away from me. "Bitch."

I narrowed my eyes at him.

"Repeat that. I dare you." Zeref said in a monotone voice causing goosebumps to form across my skin.

But I wasn't the only one who was taken aback.
