Helaina and Andrew were the power couple of high school. Not many high school relationships were destined to become more than that, but everyone expected Helaina and Andrew to get married and last for...

The sound of a knock on the door and a crying baby left me torn on which to attend to. I quickly glanced between the two once or twice before deciding the door would only take a second.
I lifted Hope from her bouncer and took her over to the door with me, rubbing her back to try and get her to calm down, to no avail.
Standing on the other side of the door was Andrew, which was a surprise to me. Usually he calls or texts me asking if he can come over.
I didn't have the energy to ask him what brought him here though.
I lost Hope's lilac blanket and she knows it, too. She's been a screaming machine all morning and I have no idea where the blanket went.
"What's up?" I stepped aside to let him in.
Andrew waved a certain lilac blanket in front of me. My eyes went wide and I snatched it from his hand to tuck into Hope's chest. The screams quieted and the tears stopped as she instantly pulled it closer to her.
"I think it fell out of the diaper bag when I took you two home last night."
Last night, Hope and I went with Andrew to the park and then we went over to Shea's for dinner. He'd taken us home past Hope's bedtime last night that she didn't even realize she fell asleep without the blanket, but this morning she definitely realized.
The whole complex probably realized.
"Thank you so much," I sighed. Hope, clearly tired from crying on-and-off for the past two hours, rested her head on my shoulder.
"Yeah, no problem." A slightly uncomfortable silence elapsed between the two of us as we stood there staring at each other.
It's been proven incredibly difficult for two past lovers to try and be nothing but the parents of a baby.
Especially when the love isn't particularly in the past for one of them - aka: me.
"I guess I should get going. I've got an AA meeting in a few."
"Okay." I smiled a little.
My next move was an impulsive decision.
"Actually, uh, Hope has her 9 month checkup at 2, if you're not busy and want to come with us."
"Yeah." He didn't even try to hide his big smile. "I have my AA meeting until noon, then I have to go to a job interview, but I'll meet you at the doctors at 2?"
"Sounds great, I'll text you the address."
"Okay, thanks, Helaina." He leaned forward, removing all the space between us.
My heart rate accelerated to a speed no one would be able to calculate, but it slowed as he backed away after kissing the top of Hope's head.
With a slight wave, Andrew left for his AA meeting, leaving Hope and I alone in our apartment.
