The trip back was fine, we got coach all to ourselves, but I don't really know if the trip was quick, or not, because I slept most of the way. Keecho only woke me up to tell me to get my seat belt back on. A limo took us back to the house, then we had some trouble with the sectary.
"How could he do that to me?" She balled when Keecho asked her how she was.
"It's okay, if he did that to you then what good is he?" Keecho comforted. "You deserve better. You know what? Go take the rest of the day off, have a coffee, take a walk, flirt with a cute guy, do what makes you happy."
"Really?"
"Yes." She ran out the to go fix her make-up and change into something nicer, all the while I was just standing there awkwardly. "Well, now that, that's done lets go up to the penthouse." Keecho said happily.
"Sure," I nodded and followed behind. The elevator ride seemed longer than it was, mostly because I wanted to ask him something, but I hadn't found the right words to not seem like a crazy, jealous, stalker.
"What do you want to ask me?" He said calmly. I froze.
"How?"
"I've been around awhile. So what cha need?" He said, turning to me.
"Well, I...I just... wanted to... know how you were so good at comforting her." I rushed out the last part, then bowed my head.
"Like I said before I've been around awhile, plus I know how to get into people's heads- it's a helpful skill in business." He explained, 'ding' said the elevator letting us know that we had arrived at our floor.
"Oh, okay..." I mumbled as he unlocked the door, we found Meza and Annie sitting on the couch watching some T.V. Meza was in her usual outfit of combat attire, while Annie was in a white sweater that was about a size too big for her and covered her hands. Then she had pastel pink thigh-high socks with bunnies on them and a white pleated skirt, but she still had her white hospital eye-patch on.
"Yo." Meza said not looking at us.
"Hi." Keecho said, starting to walk off. We had almost gotten to his room, but then I remembered.
"Wait, what about the box?" I asked, tugging on his sleeve.
"It's in my room, I had Meza pick it up and drop it off in my room." He elaborated, as he held the door open for me.
"Oh, okay." I found myself saying again, but immediately regretting it remembering how much I had said that. Though Keecho didn't notice or just didn't comment on it.
"You want to bring it out to them?" He asked handing me the box. I nodded and walked back out to go see them, Keecho followed close behind.
"What's that?" Meza asked, turning to look at us, "Oh wait. I know that box. You had me fly all the way out to get."
"Yeah, well, we, kind of, need some of your blood to see if we can, somehow, open it." I tried to explain, but kind of failed, though Meza and Annie seemed to understand. Meza looked like she always did, but Annie looked like she was going to be sick.
"Hey Annie, you okay?" Meza asked looking worried.
"Yeah, I'm fine, just let me go first." She said, looking scared and fearless at the same time. It was weird, it was like she knew that box, but not like the way we knew it.
"Okay, sure." I said handing the box over to her. Keecho handed her the knife, she slit her finger-but didn't wince- and let the blood pool before pressing it to the plate like Keecho and I had done. Only the clicking had ended quickly and the box broke into four pieces. Inside was a worn, and torn, black notebook that had, 'REUSABLE SUICIDE BOMB TEST LOG' scribbled across the white spot provided for titles.
She dropped the book and ran off somewhere, probably to be as sick as she looked. Keecho picked the book up off the couch and flipped it open.
"Day 1, I have decided to journal all my findings in case they don't turn out well." He read from the notebook. "Another test subject died today. They blew up like planned, but didn't recondense and I was left to clean their remains up. I don't know who I'll use next as a test subject."
"What does that mean?" Meza asked, to no-one.
"Who knows, but we should keep reading." Keecho said, I just remained quiet trying to process all the information. "Day 2, I have taken a liking to writing in this, since I'm working alone. I still haven't found another test subject, because they need to be compatible with the seed. I might try it in my own body."
"What? Haven't they seen any sci-fi movies?" Meza asked, talking to the person who wrote the book, "You never try a dangerous experiment on yourself!"
"Meza," Keecho growled warning her, "would you like me to read the notebook or have you just tell me every little thing wrong with a mad scientist's life-threatening experiments."
She let out a visible shiver, "No, sorry sir, please continue." He sighed.
"Day 3, I am due to have a child soon. I have just injected myself with the seed, my reactions weren't like the other subjects. It felt like my blood was boiled then froze over and over, for god knows who long, but the pain eventually stopped and I puked up anything I had in my stomach." Keecho stopped and let his hand holding the book relax, then looked at us. I saw the pages were ripped, burned, and stained with crimson. I hoped it wasn't blood, but I knew it was.
"What... what happened to her?" I finally spoke up, voice breaking from not using it for the whole time.
"We..." Keecho started, probably trying to find the right words, "She was murdered by her last test subject."
"Oh..." I trailed off, leaving the room in any awkward silence.
"Weeell," Meza said stretching out the 'e' in 'well'. "I better go check on Annie, she should be done now and needs some comforting. So, bye, I guess." We both watched her go.
"Are you okay?" Keecho asked me.
"Uh, yeah, why?" I said turning towards him, he was facing me.
"You just seem a bit pale, but if you say you're fine." He closed up the notebook and sat next to me, "I think we should stop reading for today, let you regain your color." I nodded and leaned into his chest, felt him shift and put a hand on my head, petting behind my ears. I purred into him, and felt the blood come back to my face as my tail rested happily across both of us.
