Chapter 16

Hazel's POV

I stomped through the forest. "What the Pluto has gotten into Frank!" I said rubbing my head. I was far enough away, that no one could hear me, "And Percy, and Tyson, and Annabeth! I thought she understood!" I sat down and cried. I wept, and wept, and wept. I didn't want anyone to bother me. I just wanted to be alone. I stared at my shoes. A dozen rubies and diamonds were surrounding my feet. I'm not sure I could control my black outs and the gems. I'm scared, because this is a very important mission. I really don't want anything to mess up for... well, anything that might throw us off track. You know, I'm starting to think it was a bad idea to bring the Stolls along. I heard a twig snap. My head snapped toward the sound, Leo was standing in the trees watching me with his big brown curious eyes. Leo. "What do you want?" I asked,

"I just thought you needed someone to talk to." Leo said sitting down next to me.

"Why would I need that?" I asked unsure of what Leo was saying.

"Well, when you ran off like that, Annabeth was about to run after you." He said, "And I thought at least anyone would be better than Annabeth." Leo chuckled a little like it was an inside joke.

"Well, I'm just not sure what has gotten into Frank. Frank, Percy, and Tyson have been acting strange." I said calmly.

"Well, you know it's probably something about a war." Leo said shrugging. I stared at him my eyes wide.

"What do you mean?" I asked moving away from him a little.

"I can read expressions, Frank looks like he's hiding something, and Percy and Tyson recently got back they wouldn't talk to anyone. I have a feeling there's a war going on that has to do with them." I had a strange feeling, Sammy could read expressions. He could even read mine when I'm in a bad mood or I'm sad. I soon realized I was staring at Leo and quickly looked away blushing, "You okay Hazel?" Leo asked,

"Yeah. Fine." I said quickly, "We should really get back!" I said jumping to my feet. Leo didn't move staring at my feet.

"Are you going to do something about that?" He asked pointing to the assortments of jewls scattered around my feet. I stared at it before looking back at Leo.

"It usually goes away on it's own." I said shrugging and hopping past Leo toward the Burrow. Leo stared at me for a second not moving before following me to the Weasley's house. Although, since Leo is a lot like Sammy, I have a bad feeling he's right.

Thalia's POV

I walked into the training arena to find Gale sitting on the ground focused on... whatever he was doing. I took a few steps in before Gale whipped around, wow, he had amazing hearing! "Hey." He said simply before turning back to his... little work.

"Hey." I replied moving closer to him. His hands were moving over a small little contraption. "What are you making?" I asked sitting next to him. He looked at me before moving his hands for me to see.

"I'm making a trap." He said, "A snare trap in fact." He grinned, "Do you know how to make one?"

"I think someone taught me, although I really need to learn again." I said blushing a little. I lied, I do know how to make a snare. I just wanted to see him work. He nodded and took out some wires and a locking device.

"Well," He started, "they're actually, quite simple. Snares are categorized as either neck or foot snares. They are generally made of light wire cable looped through a locking device or of a small nylon cord tied so that it will tighten as the animal pulls against it. The more a snared animal struggles, the tighter the noose becomes, the tighter the noose, the greater the animal’s struggle and suffering." He explained, he stared tying the wire so fast I could barley see anything. In less than a minute he gave me the snare he just finished. "See." He said, "Here." He gave me a wire and another locking device and I started struggling to make it. He smiled a little. I tried to tie the wire with the device although I was struggling immensely. Now I understand why Artemis would never let me go hunting. "Here let me help you." Gale said has he placed his hands on mine gently. His hands were strong, sturdy, and dry. I stared our hands as I could feel heat rising to my face, he was showing me how to tie the knot although I couldn't help but look at his face. He had beautiful eyes, gray, that is. I'm starting to wonder if he's a child of Athena. I doubt it though. Because they claim that they have no Olympian-God parents. I was brought back to Earth when I noticed that Gale was staring back at me. I blushed immensely and looked away. He was close enough to kiss, although I know this is against the rules to fall in love with a man now. I will surely be kicked off the hunters if they find out about this. I looked back down at my hands, the snare was resting softly in my hands. Gale slowly moved his hands back. I smiled slightly. I looked at Gale, he was smiling too. I heard my name being called. I turned around, Phoebe was calling for me. I quickly stood up and walked out. I paused at the door and looked to face Gale.

"Thank you." I said quietly. Gale nodded and turned back to the snare I had left behind. I pushed my thoughts aside and walked over to meet Phoebe, "What is it?" I asked seriously.

"You're going to leave soon." Phoebe said, "And I'd be prepared, it's gonna be a long trip, two days at the least."

"How am I getting there?" I asked,

"Pegasus." Phoebe said patting my back, "be careful." I swallowed hard, I'm. Going. To have to. Go in the air. I laughed a dry laugh trying to lighten the mood. It didn't work. I quickly walked over to the Artemis cabin to get my things. When I got in the other hunters were wishing me good luck and things like that. Although I wasn't really paying attention. I was going in the air. Why Chiron? Why? I quickly got my bag and hopped out of the cabin. Chiron was standing there.

"Be prepared Thalia." Chiron warned, "There are dangerous creatures out there." Yep, that's the type of 'good luck! I hope you don't die of fright!' good byeChiron gives us. I nodded and walked toward the Pegasus Stable. I got a brief glance at Gale walking out of the Arena before I walked into the piles of hay. The Pegasus' looked startled that I was going to ride one of them. I walked over to one that was chocolate brown with white spots.

"I-I'll have you." I said shaking a little while petting the horse's nose. It snorted like it was making fun of me. I quickly swung my legs over the horse and it moved out of the stable taking off into the air. I gripped it's neck hoping I didn't die as the camp went out of view. I just knew one thing, this was going to be a very long trip.
